Tottenham are heading to another cup final this season after they edged past Crystal Palace 1-1 (6-5 on penalties) to reach the Capital Women’s Cup.

It was just a week ago when Tottenham reached the Women’s FA Cup fifth round with Arsenal, to keep themselves alive in five competitions this season to win some silverware.

With a finals appearance already set for Spurs Ladies in the Ryman Cup, they could now add another one with the Capital Women’s Cup final against Charlton Athletic Ladies.

A familiar opponent and rival to Spurs last season in the Capital Cup and Ryman Cup.

Getting to the Capital Women’s Cup final was a tough journey for Spurs during the semi-finals against Crystal Palace where Tottenham were on the verge of elimination on multiple occasions.

A 1-1 scoreline at the end of regulation forced both sides to a penalty shootout where Spurs goalkeeper Megen Lynch made four saves to keep Spurs alive.

After a 2-2 scoreline to begin the penalty shootout, Megen Lynch promptly stopped Crystal Palace’s Leesa Haydock from taking the lead. But on the ensuing kick, Spurs’ Renee Hector would be kept out by Chanelle Yardley.

Following a Palace goal from Sarah Jones to give themselves a 3-2 lead and Bianca Baptiste unable to equalize, Lynch’s second save of the shootout over Freya Holdaway kept Tottenham in the game with the Eagles’ chances of advancing to the final put on hold.

Eartha Pond’s goal to tie the game at three-all gave life to Spurs, sending the shootout into sudden death where Megen Lynch’s final two saves of the match set up Jenna Schillaci’s winner and booked Spurs’ ticket to the Capital Cup final for the second season in a row.

After the excitement wore out following a back and forth penalty shootout, Spurs manager Karen Hills spoke to Spurs’ official website to talk about her side’s effort.

That Tottenham “showed character to come through” when they needed it the most — to advance to their second cup final this season.

"“You always talk about defining moments in football and once again we showed the character to come through,” Hills said.“We could have gone out in the shootout but Megen saved that crucial penalty and went on to win it for us with four saves.”“She also made a brilliant save in the second half of the game.”“It was another fantastic win. It was a tough day – but worth it!”"

The save in the second half that Megen Lynch made which Karen Hills mentioned above happened point blank with Gemma Bryan of Palace being one-on-one inside the six-yard box.

Had Bryan put her shot away in the second half, it would have taken away the momentum that Spurs had engineered after scoring the equalizer during the 62nd minute and more than likely given Crystal Palace the win.

It would have also prevented Lynch from making four critical saves during the penalty shootout to ensure that Spurs have another opportunity to lift up one more trophy this year.
