DeAndre Yedlin’s future with Tottenham is still up in the air, but he has been short-listed by Sunderland manager David Moyes as a potential target.

After spending last season on loan with Sunderland, Tottenham right-back DeAndre Yedlin has been given a chance by Mauricio Pochettino to see how far he has developed since arriving in England from the United States.

Being selected to take part in Spurs’ Australia Tour against Juventus and Atlético Madrid recently was mainly for Pochettino to see how much depth his squad has, with 10 of out 11 Tottenham players representing their countries in the European Championship getting rest.

For the most part, DeAndre Yedlin is seemingly in the Argentine manager’s plans after being announced on the 24-man pre-season squad.

At the same time Mauricio Pochettino seems to prefer Kieran Trippier as Kyle Walker’s backup but is willing to give Yedlin some playing time.

A switch in positions isn’t necessarily something that would happen as it was most likely due to Ben Davies’ absence as he is getting back to speed in fitness after helping Wales reach the semi-finals in the Euros.

But it is an interesting thought to say the least.

As for another loan move, that isn’t out of the question. Still, Yedlin could very well stay on the first-team and provide Tottenham with another full-back (on either side maybe) and can double down as a winger when needed.

With David Moyes the new manager for Sunderland after Sam Allardyce took over as England boss following Roy Hodgson’s resignation, Yedlin’s return to Wearside wasn’t exactly in doubt. But, a return on loan (or permanently) wasn’t concrete either.

That is, however, until Moyes recently claimed that the U.S. international defender, along with French midfielder Yann M’Vila, were still targets Sunderland for this summer.

“Both M’Vila and Yedlin made decent impacts,” David Moyes told the Sunderland Echo.

“They are players who we have talked a lot about in the last week, and we have spoken to people about them.”

“So I would say that they are players who are out there, but they are among a number of players who we are looking at.”

More from Tottenham Transfer Rumours

“I want to see if there are better players that are available, or if there is better value.”

“I’m having to find out about the market quickly, and seeing what is there.”

“At the moment the market is difficult and getting a price and valuation on someone is not easy.”

Because the 53-year-old was just recently announced as the Black Cats’ new coach, it’s not surprising that the Scottish manager is constantly looking at multiple players at a time and trying to find out if they would be the right fit for the club.

Then again, right-back is one of three positions that Sunderland needs to bolster with center-back and center-forward being the other two.

“It’s obvious we need a new right-back, a centre-half and a centre-forward – and that’s before we even start to think about anything else or improving a different area,” Moyes continued.

“They are merely needed as a given.”

Whatever DeAndre Yedlin’s future holds, there’s a possibility that he sticks with Mauricio Pochettino’s team this season as a right-back/right winger.

Or, he could be given the opportunity to once again go on loan to Sunderland as David Moyes has recently checked in with people regarding his fit with the club.

Another option is of course, to sell the 22-year-old to Sunderland. Regardless, there’s two offers for Yedlin: he stays with Tottenham or he leaves this summer.

And either way DeAndre Yedlin seems open to either move.
