Tottenham Hotspur will begin their 2016-17 Premier League season in August, while their return to the Champions League comes one month later in September.

Sky Sports has just released a preliminary schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 season for all Premier League clubs. And while it’s not exactly an individual breakdown of all 20 clubs’ season openers for the Premiership and in Europe as well, this will suffice for now.

In terms of when Tottenham and their supporters can look forward to the new season, it will begin during the second weekend of August. From the 13th through the 15th (Saturday-Monday).

As for Spurs’ Champions League campaign, that will begin midweek on September 13 or 14, along with Leicester City, Arsenal and Manchester City (assuming that they end up qualifying).

Because Leicester, Arsenal and Tottenham finished in the top three — in that exact order — they automatically qualified for the group stage and will be afforded an extra month of time to help bolster their squad in preparation for a challenging competition with Europe’s best.

Tottenham’s first-ever Champions League campaign saw them reach the quarter-finals during the 2010-11 season where they would be eliminated by Real Madrid. Despite being newcomers, they showed everyone that they could hang with the elite clubs and provided some exciting moments.

Could that happen once again six years later? Reaching the final eight?

It’s way too early to tell, but there’s enough optimism going around White Hart Lane and Tottenham after a good season despite an abrupt end to a potential second place finish a week ago.

Again, while there are no exact dates yet for Spurs, in terms of when their Premier League and Champions League season will actually begin, it’s nice to know these possible dates ahead of time to start planning moves.

One, for fans to mark on their calendars when to watch the games on the opening weekend whether it’s at home or away.

And two, so that Mauricio Pochettino and his staff can hopefully use these two dates (August 13-15 and September 13-14) to help map out a plan on how to bolster their squad during the summer transfer window.

In due time once the season draws nearer, all 20 Premier Clubs will know when they begin their 2016-17 season.

Surely with a dissatisfying end to Tottenham’s 2015-16 season, everyone is ready to put that behind them and start anew with bigger and higher expectations.

Gaining entry into the Champions League with a top four finish will be one goal, but another is to win the Premier League title. Which Toby Alderweireld has said is now Spurs’ main priority for the new league year.

Competing in the FA Cup and League Cup to potentially win one of these trophies is something that Tottenham will keep in mind. But depending on how their season is going it wouldn’t be surprising if they don’t prioritize it once again.
