There’s no easy way to break down Tottenham’s excellent season to just ten matches, but here we are all the same.

Tottenham might have had a rough final month of the campaign, and no trophies were won, but for the most part this was a season of frenetic action, unexpected results and genuine triumphs. They finished third with 70 points — only the unlucky, peak-Gareth-Bale 2012/13 season point tally of 72 was higher. Mauricio Pochettino and the entire squad deserve a tremendous amount of praise for that improvement over the last season.

What’s more, it looks like this is improvement that will stick. With Champions League qualification and committed back office leadership, it seems unlikely that Tottenham will be selling its best players this summer. With Pochettino double down on his commitment to the club with a new contract, it feels like lists like the following are going to be even harder to make for seasons to come.

At its core, the hunt that follows will need to have standards. Even if you’re a Tottenham fan, is it possible that a 2-1 victory could be more entertaining than a 4-0 rout? While every match certainly told their own little stories, how many of them were actually meaningful for the season as a whole? What matches stand out as the hallmarks of an improved Tottenham?

These are the basic questions that will guide us through a chronological breakdown of the best and most significant matches of Tottenham’s 2015/16 season.
