Harry Kane is the first Englishman since 1999-2000 to win the Golden Boot, as well as the first Tottenham Hotspur player since Teddy Sheringham (1992-93) to lift the award.

Tottenham supporters have every right to be disappointed with today’s embarrassing loss to Newcastle United. But if there was one thing to take pride in, it’s that Harry Kane has won the Golden Boot award after scoring 25 goals.

Although Kane didn’t register a single goal in the last two games since scoring against Chelsea on May 2nd, it didn’t matter as Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy (24) and Manchester City’s Sergio Agüero (24) both failed to capitalize themselves.

Thus, giving the Premier League’s Golden Boot award to Tottenham’s star striker. Winning this individual trophy helps cap off another 20-plus goal season for Harry Kane after starting the campaign with only one goal in the first nine matches.

But since then with murmurs of people mentioning Harry Kane and one-season wonder in the same sentence, those thoughts quickly dissolved after the 22-year-old manged to score 24 goals in the remaining 29 matches.

With two superb seasons as Tottenham’s lone striker, it has now become obvious that the England international is capable of scoring plenty of goals.

The only worry with Harry Kane is the fact that he is the only out-and-out striker in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. There are no backups for Kane should he rest or suffer a long-term injury.

Other players have been given an opportunity to start as Pochettino’s center forward during cup competitions and/or the Europa League, although they haven’t been able to look comfortable by themselves.

Case in point, Son Heung-Min managed to score two goals to start Spurs’ opening group stage match in the Europa League back in September.

But due to injury and Harry Kane playing as the only starting striker in the Argentine manager’s 4-2-3-1 formation, the South Korean international never materialized as a good backup option for Kane.

The same thing can be said for Clinton N’Jie when he too, got a start in the Europa League.

Essentially, while Harry Kane has proven he can succeed up top by himself, that alone isn’t enough heading into next season when Tottenham will need to address glaring holes in the bench.

One of the main priorities is to get a striker. There are other positions that needs to be addressed as well, but Spurs cannot go a third season with just one out-and-out striker if Mauricio Pochettino wants to avoid losing his best players for a long period of time.

If, for whatever reason, that Tottenham fails to address the striker position with a capable backup or starter who can play alongside the England international, then it appears that Mauricio Pochettino feels strongly with the current depth at the forward position.

Or, there just isn’t someone good enough or willing enough to play second fiddle to Harry Kane from the transfer window. And that in itself, could be a problem which can only be fixed with a change in formation. If, Pochettino decides to do so.
