Tottenham Urges Southampton to Win Against Leicester
Following a 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Tottenham, all eyes are now on Leicester City when they host Southampton. Especially Harry Kane and former Saints’ manager, Mauricio Pochettino.
Dropping two points isn’t an argument because Tottenham did in fact let two points slip by them after equalizing in the 63rd minute from a great Harry Kane strike.
However, while Tottenham could have won this game with the momentum on their side, the same could have been said for Liverpool after Philippe Countinho put the hosts ahead in the 51st minute and having plenty of chances in the first half if it wasn’t for Hugo Lloris and his numerous great saves to keep the game level at 0-0.

That being said, the players and Mauricio Pochettino — along with some (or mostly all) of Tottenham’s fans might look at this result as a missed opportunity. And in some instance it is, but another way of looking at it is a well deserved draw.
Winning at Anfield, for Tottenham, hasn’t been easy to come by.
Seeing as Spurs haven’t won at this stadium in what will be five years now since 2011. Which is a span of five games. In both home and away matches, today’s draw marks the seventh consecutive meeting where Tottenham have failed to record a win.
So generally, Tottenham have found it difficult to beat Liverpool throughout the years. Therefore it was a tough ask from the very beginning to want a win even if Spurs have been in fine form.
And with today’s results now in the books, it’s time to move on and see how Leicester City responds to a four-point lead with a chance to push it to seven points if they beat Southampton.
For Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino, they’ll be hoping that the Saints can get a win at the King Power Stadium and completely blow this Premier League title race wide open.
“I’d be lying here if I said I wasn’t too bothered,” Kane said following today’s 1-1 draw (quotes via Sky Sports).
“Of course we’re fighting for the Premier League, so we’ll be watching the game tomorrow and hopefully Southampton can get the result.”
“We’ve done what we can today and there’s nothing else we can do so hopefully Southampton can do us a favour.”
Former Saints’ manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who managed Southampton for 18 months before taking the managerial role with Tottenham before the start of the 2014-15 season agrees with Harry Kane and hopes that the south coast club can do Spurs a favor.

“Of course I’ll be watching,” said Pochettino (quotes via the Daily Mail).
“To be honest, I hope that Southampton can win and leave the points gap at four points like now. This is my interest as head coach.”
“We are disappointed [after dropping] two points but playing at Liverpool is never easy.”
“We need to feel proud of our players. Leicester deserve to be where they are but anything can happen in football and we have to still believe.”
Believing is all that Tottenham can realistically do. Because at this point, the Premier League title — while not fully out of reach — is slowly leaving their grasps and is almost fully in Leicester’s hands because they have an opportunity to further distance themselves from a crowded pack of title contenders.
With Arsenal and Manchester City both winning and Tottenham picking up a draw, plus both clubs have a game in hand still, the Gunners and Man City aren’t fully out of the title race just yet.
In fact, things are just heating up once again in the top four with six games remaining.

Whatever happens tomorrow on Sunday, it’s obvious that the best result is a loss for the Foxes. The second best option is to see them draw against Southampton and keep the gap at five points.
Should Leicester win, the Premier League title will soon be there’s at the start of next week when the Foxes begin a stretch of four games in a row, where they kick off before Tottenham do.
That will add even more pressure for Spurs. But losing to Manchester United at White Hart Lane, could be it for Tottenham and a potential league title. So for now, Southampton must do the Lilywhites a favor, the only one they’ve ever asked throughout this season publicly, and that’s to upset the league leaders.
