With Leicester City ahead of Tottenham by five points, Spurs needed to get a win to keep pace with the league leaders. But after today’s results, a draw isn’t as bad as it looks.

Following a first half which saw Liverpool have the better chances to score first and put Tottenham’s title hopes into a potential downward spiral, the Reds did just that for a brief spell in the second half, after plenty of back and forth action throughout the game.

In the 51st minute, Philippe Coutinho, put the hosts ahead 1-0 and a chance to extend a current six-game undefeated streak (both home and away against Tottenham) to seven games. While also remaining undefeated against Spurs at home since 2012.

However, when Tottenham desperately needed a goal, their talisman did the job.

Harry Kane who would be on the receiving end of a Christian Eriksen flick pass over Nathaniel Clyne’s head — with the Danish international able to save the ball before it went out for a goal kick following a deep long ball — Kane managed to hold his defender off before turning around to his left with a perfect left-foot touch and then striking a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner past Simon Mignolet.

With the equalizer set, and the game level at one-all, a boisterous Anfield crowd started to fade away while the traveling Tottenham fans roared louder and louder to push their club on to get a win and all three points.

Now yes, a draw right now is not the desired result that Tottenham needed.

But in the grand scheme of things as of this moment, even if Leicester City’s current lead is just at four points, following today’s game, picking up a point can’t be argued.

Because for the longest time during this match, with Hugo Lloris making seven brilliant saves in the entire game, Liverpool could have very well been ahead by a couple of goals.

And yet it took 51 minutes just to see the Reds finally get by the French goalkeeper.

Had Kane not managed to score the equalizer, Tottenham may have just lost this match and perhaps their momentum to remain ahead of bitter rivals, Arsenal.

As well as catching up with Leicester City, even if a draw only nets Spurs just a single point.

So had Tottenham lost this game, a draw would have been a much better result, no?

Therefore, drawing against Liverpool once again — even though that extends Tottenham’s winless streak at Anfield and against the Reds, both home and away, to five and seven games, respectively — it’s better than losing and getting no points in return.

Tomorrow, the Foxes will still have pressure on them to continue extending their lead over Spurs, so while four points isn’t much at the moment. If Leicester draw, or lose to Southampton, then getting one point today against perhaps Tottenham’s most difficult fixture remaining is a fine result.

At the end of the day, Tottenham managed to get a well deserved point after trailing in this game (it might not be much, but right now it is). If the roles were reversed and Spurs had been ahead, then for sure, drawing level with Liverpool would be two points dropped (even if that’s what happened today).

In any event, up next, Mauricio Pochettino and company will now look ahead to hosting Manchester United at White Hart Lane in eight days time to try to close either a four, five or seven point gap. And keep their title hopes alive.
