It’s the first edition of Spurs’ Transfer Rumors in the month of January.

The January transfer window is officially open and here are two stories regarding Tottenham. The first story is a transfer rumor regarding often linked Argentine forward, Ezequiel Lavezzi, as a possible option to help shore up Spurs’ lack of strikers but also to play out wide or even centrally behind Harry Kane.

Finally, Kenneth McEvoy or more eloquently called “Baby Bale” is no longer a member of Tottenham’s youth academy. Spurs have not only lost Gareth Bale but also his young dopplegänger as well. Time for the transfer links below.

The answer to the headline’s question of ‘Is Ezequiel Lavezzi still an option for Spurs?’ is a yes. And no, it has nothing to do with going out and trying to sign the Argentine international right now to justify that answer.

It’s basically looking at who is available on the transfer market and looking at Mauricio Pochettino’s squad — injuries included (Clinton N’Jie says hi!) — and figuring out where Lavezzi would fit. And as things stand right now, even at 30-years-old, Lavezzi would have a place on this young squad from a right profile type of fit.

He’s a forward who mainly plays as a winger, but could slide in as a striker if need be. Or even play inside behind Harry Kane as well. There are plenty of options for Pochettino which makes Ezequiel Lavezzi an intriguing pickup for Spurs to consider.

Contract-wise, Lavezzi’s deal is set to expire in June and it would make sense for Paris Saint-Germain to sell the Argentinian now and recoup some money instead of getting nothing in return. Besides, an unhappy player who is getting minimal playing time, will ask for a move.

But whether Ezequiel Lavezzi’s original transfer fee of €26.5 million (£19.5 million) that they paid to Napoli in 2012 is worth it is another matter altogether. Also, Juventus and Inter Milan are said to be interested in Lavezzi too. So a bidding war could ensue. Or Spurs could look elsewhere to sign some attacking reinforcements instead.

Down below is a long post from Kenneth McEvoy’s Twitter account discussing his move to leave Spurs after not getting a chance to play for the first team. Before getting to that though, we’ll talk about what this means and look at a different view with Mauricio Pochettino and youth academy players.

Now, as sad as it to see a talented footballer leave due to no signs of joining the current 25-man squad in the near future. It’s understandable to leave as soon as possible and find a club who will give you what you want in the end.

Because as of right now, Tottenham is a much more improved team throughout the squad, top to bottom. Still, this is mostly an anomaly if anything as it will go unnoticed to most people with Pochettino’s current success of promoting from within and giving youth players first team minutes when possible.

That said, this isn’t a knock on the Argentine manager’s eye for talent — or even Paul Mitchell — it just shows that Pochettino at times isn’t enamored with some prospects and lets them continually develop much to the chagrin of what an 18 or 19-year-old might think.

Now let’s finally take a look at what Kenneth McEvoy had to say about his departure.

At the very least, McEvoy’s last loan spell with League Two side, York City, are trying to make his brief stint with the club, which expired on January 2nd, a permanent one according to the York Press.

If this is the case where the Republic of Ireland international has a potential offer to play regular football with York City’s first team, then it’s a good ending to perhaps an underwhelming five years for McEvoy who tried his hardest but in a way got bypassed by other players ahead of him in terms of more talent.

Then again, Kenneth McEvoy had a difficult journey to join Spurs’ first team with a crowded squad at his current position. With the likes of Érik Lamela, Clinton N’Jie, Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen and even Son Heung-min all playing out wide this season.
