Tottenham Hotspur Links: Roberto Soldado Is Still a Spurs Fan
The latest Tottenham Hotspur morning news is here.
A couple of things will be changed with these Tottenham Hotspur Links. First, there won’t be a morning, afternoon and evening edition. The hope was that it would be good to get everyone up to date at different parts of the day. Well that’s changing now, it’ll strictly be a morning edition. If, for whatever reason, this article can’t make it out in time because of time constraints, then it’ll resurface in the afternoon or evening instead. Secondly, the dates will be gone. You could tell what day it was even without the dates on the title, but now it’ll be hard to differentiate between one morning edition to another without the dates included. Here’s the news.
- Former striker, Roberto Soldado is still a Spurs fan

Despite having a rough two-year stretch as a member of Tottenham Hotspur, the 30-year-old Spanish striker is not only just a Spurs supporter, but Tottenham is his English club. Spurs are the only team he has ever played for in English football and will most likely be the only one. For that reason alone, Roberto Soldado was a great Tottenham player — in the sense of giving his all even if it didn’t work out.
- Tottenham sent scouts to a R.S.C. Anderlecht game

During yesterday’s R.S.C. Anderlecht and Royal Mouscron-Péruwelz game, Tottenham sent scouts to watch according to Belgian daily Standaard (which wasn’t linked in the article). Spurs’ scouts were watching Anderlecht’s 22-year-old winger, Andy Najar, who — back in 2011 — was on trial with Tottenham. At the time, Spurs weren’t convinced of the then 18-year-old so they didn’t sign Najar but that could change soon if he impresses Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the January transfer window.

This news is a day old, but because it’s a preview article, it’s fine for tonight’s game against Aston Villa. Toby Alderweireld’s message was clear and straight to the point.
“Villa will win one day, so we have to be 100 percent. No one will underestimate Villa. Maybe they will have a new manager and they need to change things in the Premier League. It will be difficult but we’re confident in our ability and our quality to win that game. And at home, we want to get the three points in every game we play.”
These words can be said about every team in the league, but it’s more prevalent for Aston Villa because they’re at the bottom of the league table. Record and form tend to correlate with how good and bad teams are doing, during the season. But Aston Villa has the making of a trap-game. Spurs will have to be focused.
- Étienne Capoue reaping the rewards at Watford
- [via ESPN FC]
ESPN FC breaks down what went wrong with Étienne Capoue and why his short two-year stint with Tottenham didn’t pan out. According to the report, during the first few games in which Capoue was starting, he did very well. But then it didn’t last that long and his performance dropped, causing Mauricio Pochettino to ultimately bench him, as the Argentine manager lost faith.

Usually when a player goes through a rough spell, like Capoue had suffered, they should find a way to pull themselves out of it. At one point in time, Roberto Soldado found the back of the net against Everton in a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane.
Soldado was dealing with a shattered confidence crisis and while it was too much to overcome, the Spanish international — for brief moments at a time, was able to contribute. The same thing happened with Harry Kane this season.

This is the type of player that Tottenham lost out on, Étienne Capoue, a deep lying midfielder. “It’s not just his range of passing and ability to retain possession that impresses most. He has the ability to drive forward with the ball, opening up the pitch for his teammates by drawing players towards him. All that is missing from his performances at Watford are goals, although his willingness to get forward indicates these will come before long.”
