Who is Ayoze Pérez?

To go along with the James Wilson transfer rumor, there’s another backup striker that Tottenham is being linked to. This time it’s Newcastle United striker Ayoze Pérez. The 22-year-old Spanish striker is an interesting choice. Just like Wilson, Pérez fits the mold of young players who have potential to become good or great.

The trend of buying talent cheap, help them grow into future stars and then sell to make a profit could potentially happen if Tottenham signs Ayoze Pérez.

At the same time, he could very well stay and be Harry Kane’s understudy for the foreseeable future, so long as the transfer fee isn’t exactly worth what has been reported — €20 million (£14.6m). Yes, the tweet is in fact reporting the transfer fee in euros, despite Newcastle clearly being located in England which deals in pounds.

Typo notwithstanding, Pérez’ value puts him just a shade below Charlie Austin who is going for £15 million. That could be taken in two different ways. Either Charlie Austin is worth more than £15 million but QPR is in need to sell him, or Ayoze Pérez is being over valued for a player who hasn’t scored as many goals and is just three years younger than the English striker.

In any event, the money could be a deciding factor, and with the Spaniard able to play out wide like Clinton N’Jie and Heung-Min Son, the fee isn’t as bad, but it will be when Pérez joins a very stacked group at the flanks.
