A superb individual goal from Jermain Defoe on the stroke of half-time set Spurs on their way to victory over West Ham. He cut in from the right wing and left defenders in his trail before beating the goalkeeper at his near post. Gareth Bale added a second after 58 minutes, his first League goal at the Lane since the previous January and Defoe added the third six minutes later. Spurs hit the bar twice and Andy Carroll scored a late consolation goal, his first for West Ham.

Previous 6 Home Games

March, 2011  Draw 0 – 0

It was a dour midfield battle as West Ham battled against relegation and Spurs were unable to raise their game against a determined West Ham side where Scott Parker who had just returned from injury was their leader and inspiration.

December, 2009  Won 2 – 0

The Christmas fixture saw Spurs cruise to a comfortable win with goals from Luka Modric and Defoe. Modric’s goal came early in the first half and Defoe wrapped up the victory nine minutes from time.

April, 2009  Won 1 – 0

A goal midway through the second half from Roman Pavlyuchenko secured another win for Spurs against a resilient West Ham side. The goal was created by Spurs’ Croatians – Vedran Corluka and Modric and dispatched into the net with a fine strike by the Russian striker who had only been on the pitch for 9 minutes.

March, 2008  Won 4 – 0

A comprehensive win with two goals from Dimitar Berbatov inside the first 11 minutes. The other goals came in the last five minutes from substitutes Gilberto, his first goal for Spurs on his Premier League debut, and Darren Bent.

October, 2006  Won 1 – 0

A goal from Mido on the stroke of half-time was enough for Spurs to claim the three points. Tottenham spurned a number of opportunities to make the points secure and in the end were relieved to hear the final whistle, to avoid a repeat of the previous season’s match.

November, 2005  Draw 1 – 1

Mido had again given Spurs the lead, early in the first half. He got his head to a long ball played forward to head over the goalkeeper who was out too far. Spurs held out until the final seconds of added time when Anton Ferdinand equalised with a header from a corner. Spurs should have had the points won long before that but failed to take their chances and the warning signs as West Ham threatened their goal late on.

Last West Ham Win

West Ham last won at White Hart Lane in April, 1999. The visitors took an early lead after 4 minutes through Wright and midway through the half added a second from Keller. David Ginola replied for Spurs with 18 minutes remaining but it was too little too late.

1st PL Match

The first Premier League game between the two clubs was in April, 1994. West Ham had been promoted the previous season and Spurs had won 3 – 1 at Upton Park in December. Those, however, were Spurs only points in a run of 9 League games through to the end of March. West Ham recorded a 4 – 1 win as they finished the season 13th two places ahead of Tottenham who finally escaped relegation in the final days of the season. West Ham were a goal up at the interval scored by Jones. Morley scored a penalty before Teddy Sheringham pulled one back for Spurs from the spot. Morley added a third and Marsh scored the fourth with ten minutes to play.

1st League Game at White Hart Lane

Spurs first Football League game against West Ham at White Hart Lane was in the 2nd division in March, 1920. It was the season when League football resumed after the 1st World War. Spurs were on their way to promotion as Champions, angered at their demotion to the 2nd Division due to the skullduggery of Arsenal. Ten days earlier Spurs had lost 1 – 2 at Upton Park but in the return match won 2 – 0. The goals came from Jimmy Cantrell and Jimmy Dimmock.

The two clubs had met previously in their non-League days and during the regionalised war-time football. The first matches were in 1901 when they played at Upton Park in February in a Southern League match – the season Spurs first won the FA Cup. Spurs won that first match 4- 1with the goals coming from Sandy Brown, Stormont (2) and Hyde. The folowing October they met at White Hart Lane in the western League with Spurs recording a 2 – 1 success with John Cameron and David Copeland scoring.

Tottenham will be looking to extend their record of success against West Ham but the player who has scored most often in recent times against the Upton Park club is former Hammer, Jermain Defoe who has 6 goals against them for spurs but he may well be on the bench. Jimmy Greaves is the leading scorer against west Ham with 12 goals, frank Osborne has scored 8, Clive Allen 7 and o 6 with Defoe are Jimmy Dimmock, Alan Gilzean and Tedy Sheringham
