Even though Tottenham Hotspur were nearly relegated from the Premier League last season, there is a lot of optimism around the fan base about the club next season with Roberto De Zerbi as the manager and several big names who can rewrite the story of the club over the next five to ten years within the ranks now.
One of those players is Xavi Simons, an uber talented center midfielder who can prove to be one of the biggest steals of the summer 2025 transfer window. Even with Thomas Frank's gross mismanagement, Simons still had a few massive games for Spurs in that awful 2025/26 season, and when De Zerbi arrived, the Dutch international was absolutely cooking.
That is, of course, he tore his ACL not long after to become the latest Tottenham attacking player with a severe knee injury. It was a devastating blow for Tottenham and Simons personally, and all Spurs fans can do is pray for his full recovery and return next season.
Xavi Simons breathes Tottenham
Xavi Simons has been making some interview rounds, and every time he talks, he comes off more and more likable somehow, and fans can tell he is fully COYS. And with his latest remarks, Simons left that feeling beyond any shadow of a doubt.
He recently said, via Hotspur Lane, that what hurt him the most about the torn ACL was missing the chance to help Tottenham Hotspur avoid relegation. Simons said, “I was crying with my family. I was thinking, ‘I’m missing the most important thing, helping my club to fight for the relegation.”
That is an incredible thing to say, and when you watched Simons play at the end of the 2025/26 season, including just before Roberto De Zerbi arrived, you could see that in his effort and intensity that he did not want to go down or see Spurs go down.
Simons has competed at a much higher level than relegation in his career with even PSV and RB Leipzig, seen as smaller clubs than Tottenham, so this was a shock to the system for him to be on a team that was this futiel in his debut campaign after a big transfer to the Premier League.
But Simons's attitude has been exemplary. He genuinely refers to Tottenham as "my club", and you can plainly see how much being a Spurs player means to him. Simons is going to help take Tottenham to the top, and these are the kinds of players every big club needs as a part of its fabric.
