Tottenham need to start sounding out options to replace a starting player who is likely to leave this summer. Spurs have enjoyed a fine transfer window so far, snapping up Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.
More incomings will follow, but so will exits, with Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario among the most likely to depart. Van Hecke has been brought in in anticipation of Romero leaving, but we have seen little movement on the goalkeeper front.
But we are seeing Juventus get closer to making a formal move for Vicario, who is said to be keen on a return to his home country.
Vicario move becoming more likely
According to Sky Italy, Juventus are growing more likely to sign Vicario as they continue to wait on Argentina and Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez is Juventus's number one target this summer, but he has not yet decided if he will leave Villa, and he is unlikely to decide until after Argentina's World Cup title defence bid has concluded.
The report claims Juve are growing a little tired of waiting on Martinez, and as a consequence, the though of signing Vicario instead is getting more popular among the Old Lady bosses.
Vicario is a cheaper option than Martinez, but he is also of a lower standard. Then again, Juve may not have the luxury of landing their top targets, given they already need to sell a player before the end of this month to be financially compliant on the back of missing out on Champions League football.
Spurs need to get a move on
What is strange amid the likely Vicario departure, and we have known it is likely for weeks, is that Spurs don't seem to be currently searching for a keeper.
Other positions have clearly been the priority, but few are as important as the goalkeeper position, and finding a goalkeeper good enough to adequately replace Vicario is not going to be an easy task.
The lack of noise around a goalkeeper search could be because Roberto De Zerbi likes and trusts Antonin Kinsky enough, but it seems more likely that priorities have simply been elsewhere.
But with a new centre-back in the bag, Spurs need to consider getting their act together when it comes to the goalkeeper search to avoid finding themselves scrambling late in the window. Reliable stoppers are not easy find.
