Over the past several weeks, Tottenham Hotspur fans have been preparing internally for key players to leave the club, especially big names with aspirations of becoming stars at clubs that are not currenlty fending off relegation from the Premier League.

But the addition of manager Roberto De Zerbi has brought sweet winds of fresh spring air to waft over the N17 after the dreariness of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor ensconced Tottenham in a frozen tomb. The same players who were lazily strutting about the pitch or snapping into rash challenges are showing real signs of a turn around, and, quietly, young center back Micky van de Ven has been getting back to a competent level under RDZ.

Cristian Romero's season ending injury has thrust more responsibility on the talented but disappointing Dutchman, and Van de Ven has, after a rough patch, turned it around in recent weeks as Spurs have snapped a winless streak and gotten out of the relegation cellar in their battle with West Ham United.

Micky van de Ven is changing his mind

Now, Give Me Sport transfer insider Ben Jacobs has revealed that there is fresh optimism Tottenham Hotspur will be able to keep Micky van de Ven in North London after all when just a few weeks ago, it seemed a foregone conclusion that he would look for greener pastures amidst flattering links from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Liverpool.

Jacobs said of the Van de Ven situation with Spurs, “If Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky Van de Ven is extremely open to signing a new deal. Now he's very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up, (and therefore) that Van de Ven signs a new deal."

Now it looks like this is all contingent on Spurs closing the deal and staying up at the end of the season, but it appears Roberto De Zerb has indeed been that welcome change the players needed in order to think about staying put in Tottenham.

And it really goes to show you just how terrible Igor Tudor and, especially, Thomas Frank were. The entire vibe around the team was literally at an all time low, and it's stories like this that really seal just how horrible Frank was and that it is no exaggeration that Frank is in the running for the worst Spurs manager ever. De Zerbi is a real coach, and Tottenham stand a much better chance of keeping their stars - and actually getting these kinds of players to perform at the level they should.
