Tottenham Hotspur are rapidly upgrading their squad this summer transfer window and have already made six transfers, including three pretty high priced ones in Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes. That has put a lot of players in the squad, including young talents who previously enjoyed an almost unquestioned status, on notice that they need to step up or they will be replaced - if they have not been already this summer.

Destiny Udogie is someone Roberto De Zerbi appears to be a huge fan of and has even deemed untouchable despite whispers of transfer interest from Serie A, the league he came from before joining Spurs from Udinese. But while Udogie 100 percent is not going anywhere this summer, that does not mean things could change next year.

When he is on the pitch, there is no question that the 23 year old is the best option Spurs have at the left back position. He is technically brilliant, knows the game, can progress the ball, and is honestly almost as good defensively as Djed Spence at winning the ball and maybe better at avoiding mistakes.

It is make or break time

The problem is that Udogie is almost never healthy, and since availability is the best ability in sports, Udogie put himself on the transfer radar because of another season of nagging injuries and simply not being there. Spurs have already signed two new left backs in youngster Souza during the winter and Andy Robertson from Liverpool for free this summer. And Spence, despite rumors of Everton intrest, is also unlikely to leave as a versatile, gritty homegrown player.

So Tottenham Hotspur may subtly put Destiny Udogie on his final notice this season. Udogie does not have much time left and could be facing a make or break year. The Italian international needs to put it all together for Spurs in the 2026/27 season, stay healthy, be consistent, and be a great starter for Roberto De Zerbi, or Spurs will have to move on to someone who can get the job done.

Udogie is still young at 23 despite years of experience, but his body has been through a lot of nagging injuries that are honestly only getting more prone to re injury, based on his time table of games out in the 2025/26 season. De Zerbi may love him, but Spurs fans are realizing that his days are numbered if he can't be out there for his team.
