Like it or lump it, Ange Postecoglou is the most successful Tottenham manager in recent history. Despite boasting claims about the third season always being better than the second, the Aussie manager wasn't given enough time to prove those claims right.
Instead, after some disrespectful deliberation, Daniel Levy and co decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou. It was a decision which seemed inevitable for a long time, but then fans got their hopes up after the decision took weeks after the Europa League final win.
Nevertheless, the minds of the Tottenham hierarchy weren't changed, even after Ange delivered them Champions League football (and won a European honor in the process). The inevitable took place on Friday of last week.
Tottenham wasted no time replacing Ange Postecoglou
Despite taking a lifetime to announce his departure, Tottenham didn't waste even half the amount of time in securing his successor. In fact, Spurs fans anticipate a deal to be struck this week.
According to a report from English outlet The Express, Tottenham have reached an agreement with Thomas Frank, and he is set to take over as Ange Postecoglou's successor. A deal has been agreed between the two parties, and Daniel Levy is now "closing in" on the appointment.
Needless to say, Tottenham fans are stunned by how the club hierarchy has dealt with this situation. Of course, there are arguments either way about whether Ange needed to be sacked, that's not the issue. The issue is how Spurs went about it, if the decision was already made, why did they hesitate?
Look, we are dealing with a bunch of "what ifs" and conspiracies, but the truth is that nobody really knows the ins and outs of how Tottenham dealt with this situation. The only person who does is Daniel Levy, so fans will always be left in the dark about it.
Now, Tottenham must look forward to a future with Thomas Frank at the helm. Overall, he's an exciting appointment, as he's proven with Brentford that he can carry a team of players above their expectations.
That said, Ange Postecoglou already proved he can do that too. Say what you want about how he got there, but he did get there. Anyway, we're getting sidetracked.
Thomas Frank has proven he can achieve over the odds, so raising the floor of players he's working with should only mean good things. With this Tottenham squad, he can win trophies, which will be his ultimate aim. After all, he's yet to win a major honor as boss.
