Tottenham vs London City Lionesses match preview
There was enormous hype around both of these two teams before the Women's Super League season began, so who will justify those expectations at Brisbane Road? Of the two, Tottenham Hotspur have made the better start to the campaign, currently second, yet to taste defeat.
Last weekend, Martin Ho's team crushed Aston Villa 4-0 at home, all the goals coming in the second half. Victoria Pelova was at the double, before both Caitlin Dijkstra and Cathinka Tandberg were on target late on.
Overall, Spurs have now picked up ten points out of a possible 12 thus far. A fortnight ago, Tottenham claimed their biggest-ever WSL win, crushing Crystal Palace 7-0 at Selhurst, their only dropped points to date a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in St Helens. However, October sees their difficultly level increase, facing Chelsea and then Arsenal after this. So, can Spurs maintain their impressive start?
London City Lionesses are only a point below their hosts, having won three out of four thus far. Last weekend, Eder Maestre's team did enough to beat Brighton 2-0 at Hayes Lane, with Alexia Putellas breaking the deadlock, her first-ever WSL goal, before fellow Spaniard Lucía Corrales made the points secure in stoppage time.
Before this, London City had enjoyed wins over Manchester United and Charlton Athletic, the only blot on their copy book a surprise defeat at West Ham. Owner Michele Kang has huge ambitions for her club, with Champions League qualification a major aim, and a victory here would be a statement of intent. Thus, in short, this WSL London derby could very much go either-way.
Tottenham Hotspur team news
Martin Ho made six changes for Wednesday's League Cup win over Brighton, so did anyone impress enough in that match to start again here? Olivia Holdt is likely to keep her place, having been the mid-week match-winner, while Cathinka Tandberg will return to lead the line.
London City Lionesses team news
Eder Maestre's team were also 1-0 winners in the WSL Players Cup this week, beating Ipswich, with Daniëlle van de Donk the match-winner off the bench. Only Mapi León, Lucía Corrales and Grace Geyoro started both that match and last weekend's league win, so all the stars will return, including two time Ballon d'Or Féminin winner Alexia Putellas captaining the teeam.
