It is now 118 days since Tottenham Hotspur last won a Premier League match. Last weekend, that wait was seemingly about to end, Xavi Simons' screamer firing them 2-1 in front against Brighton in N17, only for Georginio Rutter to lash home a 95th minute equaliser. All things considered, it was a true gut-punch.
Now without a win in 15 league games, Spurs are one away from equalling the all-time club record set in 1935, and their recent record at their next venue makes this a distinct possibility.
More pertinently, Roberto De Zerbi's team are in the relegation zone, two points below West Ham United, but with a golden opportunity to change that. On Saturday, Spurs travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers, the team rock-bottom of the table, having had their relegation confirmed on Monday.
Given that Rob Edwards' side have lost their last two 4-0 and 3-0, this should be an absolute banker for beleaguered Tottenham. However, the 3,010 Spurs supporters making the 138 mile journey to the Black County will do so in trepidation.
Tottenham's last three visits to Molineux
- 13 April 2025: Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur.
- 11 November 2023: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
- 4 March 2023: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lilywhites have lost each of their last three visits to Molineux, despite having lost only four of their previous 24 away games against Wolves. Last season, Ange Postecoglou's team were truly shambolic in this fixture, while, before that, the Old Gold scored last-gasp winners both times.
Two years ago, Pablo Sarabia equalised in the 91st minute before Mario Lemina won it in the 97th minute. Eight months before that, Adama Traoré was the afternoon's only scorer, on target eight minutes from time against Antonio Conte's team. A repeat defeat in the Midlands this weekend would be a serious dent to Tottenham's survival hopes, one they may not recover from.
Premier League relegation candidates' remaining fixtures
Date | Spurs fixtures | West Ham fixtures | N Forest fixtures |
|---|---|---|---|
Current points | 31 | 33 | 36 |
24/25 April | Wolves (A) | Everton (H) | Sunderland (A) |
2/3/4 May | Aston Villa (A) | Brentford (A) | Chelsea (A) |
10/11 May | Leeds (H) | Arsenal (H) | Newcastle (H) |
17 May | Chelsea (A) | Newcastle (A) | Man United (A) |
24 May | Everton (H) | Leeds (H) | Bournemouth (H) |
Given the fixtures they have to come, notably traveling to both Villa Park and Stamford Bridge, Saturday really is a must-win for Tottenham. You would have to imagine that De Zerbi's side will require at least seven points from their final five matches to harbour any hopes of leapfrogging West Ham or Nottingham Forest; the latter may prove out of reach.
The home games against Leeds and Everton won't be easy, nor will be those two aforementioned away trips, so it's hard to see where Spurs' points would come from. The Hammers' fixtures are not easy either, which is a positive, but Nuno Espírito Santo's side has some momentum that Tottenham simply does not. Failure to end their miserable recent record at Molineux could be curtains for Spurs.
