More needs are opening up in the squad for Tottenham Hotspur with each successive poor performance, and the latest two matches after the October international break haven't exactly left Spurs supporters confident in the talent level of their squad.
Everyone knew that Thomas Frank would be up against it coming into the season with the lack of attacking talent, and while some Spurs fans have quickly turned on Frank after his hot start to the campaign already cooled off, most understand that there is still a lot of work to do in the transfer market.
Winger Mohammed Kudus has been a smashing success, but Xavi Simons has yet to adjust to the 10 role at Tottenham. Meanwhile, new striker Randal Kolo Muani hasn't been healthy enough to start, while the left wing position went unaddressed after Son Heung-min's exit to MLS.
Spurs didn't get to sign Savinho from Manchester City, and after he signed a new deal with the Citizens, it is back to the drawing board on the wings for Spurs, who need to sign someone ready-made to start. Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert are still growing.
Maghnes Akliouche is an old Tottenham transfer flame
In the summer 2025 transfer market, Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco emerged as a possible transfer target, but Tottenham didn't really pursue him seriously. After he and his team outplayed Tottenham in the Champions League, perhaps Spurs will be open to changing their minds about the young winger/attacking midfielder.
Before the game, Akliouche actually addressed the transfer rumors to reporters about the summer links and spoke highly of Spurs, via The Spurs Express, “I thought it was very flattering to have these kind of stories and links."
Just 23 years old but already an established starter for Monaco in multiple roles, Akliouche is having a positive start to the 2025/26 season in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He has three goal contributions in the French top flight despite being more of an all-around player who creates and defends for the team.
Akliouche sounds like a guy who is very interested in becoming a Tottenham player in the future, and Spurs could use a player of his youth, talent level, all-around ability, and passion. The thing is, Akliouche is at his best as a hybrid attacking midfielder and right winger, and Spurs already have a player like that in Dejan Kulusevski. What they need is a left winger, and while Akliouche could play there, he is, like Brennan Johnson and Kudus, not as experienced or as effective on that side.
