Tottenham are plotting a move for the highly-regarded Dougie Freedman to replace Fabio Paratici as sporting director.
A lack of what some might describe as "football men" in the Spurs hierarchy ranks highly among the current issues at this dying football club. The current board is nothing short of inept, with bad decision after bad decision culminating in our perilous position just barely above the relegation zone.
The likes of Johan Lange, Vinai Venkatesham and Peter Charrington simply cannot continue in their current roles, with a major shake-up desperately required at the highest level, even if Spurs avoid the humiliation of relegation.
Paratici's exit after the January transfer window leaves a notable void, with Lange and Vinai seemingly the cronies running the show. If they aren't to get the chop, they desperately need help, and appointing someone like Freedman would be a major coup for the Lilywhites.
Tottenham considering Dougie Freedman for sporting director role

Freedman racked up 520 league appearances during a 16-year playing career before moving into management. However, the 51-year-old did not garner a lofty reputation for his work on the touchline, but rather for his astute eye as a sporting director.
He spent eight years in the role at Crystal Palace, bringing the likes of Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Marc Guéhi, and Adam Wharton to Selhurst Park. Freedman knows potential when he sees it, and he's currently earning a bucket load in Saudi Arabia as a result.
According to a study produced by The Transfer Room (via BBC Sport), Freedman's signings added €374 million in value to Palace's squad, the third-most out of all sporting directors.
Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman is one of the best football theorists out there. You can see it clearly with his signings whether it was Sarr to replace Zaha’s inside forward profile one year later, Lacroix to replace Andersen at central CB, recognising the top… pic.twitter.com/4ERS0KBuJL

He's one of the best in the game. Period. The sort of character Tottenham's hierarchy is currently bereft of, that being someone who has an intimate grasp of the sport. The Scot doesn't have history with our fiercest rivals either, so that's a bonus.
The BBC's report suggests Freedman is one of three potential candidates Spurs are considering, the others being Chelsea's Paul Winstanley and Bournemouth's Tiago Pinto. Winstanley was responsible for some excellent recruitment at Brighton, with his record less pristine in west London, while Pinto, another former player, joined the Cherries in May 2024 as their first-ever President of Football Operations.
Whomever Tottenham appoint will play a leading role in deciding Thomas Frank's long-term successor. Mauricio Pochettino is the name on everybody's lips, but the new director will undoubtedly arrive with his own desires.
The two appointments will go a long way in shaping the future of this football club.
