Tottenham Hotspur have already brought in Marcos Senesi as a veteran center back and insurance in the case of captain Cristian Romero leaving, which appears to be a foregone conclusion as far as the fan base is concerned following his behavior and play on the pitch in the final weeks of the 2025/26 Premier League season and relegation fight.

Senesi was one of the best defenders in English football last season and an even better ball playing center back than Romero. And with Luka Vuskovic potentially back from loan at Hamburg where he was one of the Bundesliga's best players at any position, Spurs should be dealing in central defense, which will be a strength for the side even with Romero potentially walking away to La Liga.

However, Tottenham are still being linked to center back transfer targets on the market. The latest news comes from an Italian source, as transfer insider Alfredo Pedulla reports that Spurs have strong interest in Dinamo Zagreb star Sergi Dominguez even after kicking off their summer transfer window with Marcos Senesi as a free agent from Bournemouth.

Tottenham have already made a similar signing

Just 21 years old, the Spanish center back Dominguez is a relative unknown to most world football fans, but he had a tremendous 2025/26 season for a club known for producing top young talent, including talent they get from Spain.

Dominguez was stellar in the Europa League, averaging 3.5 combined tackles and interceptions per game while completing 86.1 percent of his passes. There is a real chance he is a gem in the rough, and Johan Lange has had success with these type of signings, almost becoming a specialist in these sorts of deals.

And Spurs fans will point out that Luka Vuskovic isn't even the only talented center back prospect who had a big year in the Bundesliga, as Kota Takai was signed by Lange in the summer 2025 transfer window, lost in all the other news of the time, and showed real quality for Borussia Monchengladbach by the end of the campaign.

A young center back prospect might be the last thing Tottenham need, but if Lange, who does have a great scouting eye, is sold on the player and has the support of the team, there's nothing wrong with punting on him. Spurs could use someone to replace Radu Dragusin, and the FOMO is enough to drive a team into spending a few million on someone who does legitimately look promising.
