There are honestly a lot of things Tottenham Hotspur have to be worried about this summer transfer window after finishing 17th in the Premier League and needing a win on the last day of the season to avoid relegation, and there is a lot of work that needs to be done in order for Spurs to go back to being a Champions League team in the standings.
The biggest worry Spurs have, though, is bleeding talent after failing to qualify for European football last season, and the most talented player they could lose is the most talented player in their squad. Spurs hold all the cards in the future of Luka Vuskovic, but as Spurs supporters have learned over the years, one can never trust Spurs upper management to make the obvious, sensible, and knowledgable decision.
According to reporting from German transfer insider Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Luka Vuskovic staying in Hamburg for another season is not happening, and there are not even talks between Tottenham Hotspur and the historic Bundesliga side on an additional loan. So there are, per Pletti, two options for Vusk. One: he can sign a long term contract extension with Spurs on a big salary, which seems to be what Johan Lange is trying to do. And two: he can move to one of the biggest clubs in Europe instead. Per Spurs insider @Szyexcl, that club is none other than Barcelona.
Tottenham's choice is simple
It is a tricky situation for Tottenham, and they have not squared Vuskovic's futur away. Yet the answer for Spurs is quite simple. Just pay Vuskovic and keep him at all costs, because he was the best player in the Bundesliga after the insane Bayern Munich front three and probably the best center back in the entire world this season as a mere 19 year old in his first senior campaign.
Vuskovic is beyond special with how he sees the game and how much he impacts the game in all phases as a center back, with his Hamburg finishing higher in the table than Spurs despite only recently coming back to the German top flight. Losing Vuskovic would be devastating, even to a club outside the Premier League and a club as big as Barcelona.
Tottenham have a valid worry here with Barca lurking, and he is the player they seem to want the most from Tottenham, though they have been linked to others like Micky van de Ven. It's time for Lange and Co. to get cracking.
