Tottenham Hotspur are willing to do whatever it takes to support Roberto De Zerbi on the transfer market, and they have put their money where their mouth is by spending 60 million euros on Brighton center back Jan Paul van Hecke, who shares an almost father son relationship with the Italian manager.
De Zerbi is zeroing in on center midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes next, but in the meantime, Tottenham are having to navigate a truly bizarre and quite annoying saga with Luka Vuskovic.
Despite telling everyone for months that he wanted to stay on loan for one more season with Hamburg to play with his brother, Vuskovic is now demanding to either start for Tottenham now or be sold permanently, preferably to Brighton, as manager Fabian Hurzeler and the club have shown significant interest with multiple (low ball, by the way) transfer bids placed for the 60 million pound rated player.
Luka Vuskovic is due for a humbling
Perhaps Vuskovic's sudden demands come from being threatened by the Jan Paul van Hecke signing and Roberto De Zerbi's love for the Dutch center back, or maybe the awards and accolades of his 2025/26 Bundesliga season are finally getting to the 19 year old's head.
But whatever the case, not everyone feels the same way about Luka Vuskovic right now. Because according to a report from Sportske Novosti, via Daily Hotspur, his own national team are not impressed with his performances. After getting caught out in the box against Harry Kane and looking too slow on the turn and on the move in general, Croatia are reportedly set to bench Vukovic against lowly Panama, of all teams, in their next World Cup group stage matchup.
It is a massive turn of events, and while Vuskovic did win the ball for Croatia's first goal and had some positive moments for his country, he showed that he is still young, raw, and has some very real concerns about his lack of speed and acceleration, which has made his transfer demands to Tottenham Hotspur all the more bizarre- and quite frankly unnecessary and disrespectful.
Tottenham fans will actually hope that Vuskovic gets an earned benching from Croatia national team manager Zlatko Dalic, because this young man clearly needs a humbling. He had one great season in a system that protected him at Hamburg, and as amazing as he was, maybe he really is not ready for Tottenham. And maybe he should think twice about his outrageous transfer requests.
