Tottenham Hotspur are making moves at a faster rate than any other Premier League team so far in the summer 2026 transfer window, but that is to be expected after the club finished 17th for a second straight season and came even closer to EFL Championship relegation, needing a win on the final day of the season to seal their survival.

Spurs have brought in Premier League veterans Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson to beef up their defense, and they are now getting closer and closer to reuniting Roberto De Zerbi with Brighton center back Jan Paul van Hecke, who could ultimately cost them around 50 million pounds.

Van Hecke and Senesi will help take the place of Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin in the first team, as both players are fully expected to leave this summer transfer window. Van Hecke's Dutch national teammate Micky van de Ven was once rumored to be leaving, with Real Madrid and Barcelona keen, but it now seems as though the center back will stay.

Jan Paul van Hecke seems like a done deal

Better yet, Van de Ven is proving he wants to stay by playing a key role in recruiting his national team friend into potentially being his center back partner under De Zerbi, who helped revive Van de Ven in the final weeks of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Micky van de Ven admitted at a recent Dutch national team press conference that he has been actively trying to get Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham Hotspur, “I did briefly have [a conversation] with Jan Paul about Tottenham. I think that it is a good step for him.”

Van Hecke seems smitten with Spurs, just as Roberto De Zerbi is a big fan of his from their Brighton days, and with Van de Ven helping the recruiting efforts, it is hard to see the 25 year old defender not joining Tottenham this summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, if Van de Ven is selling his teammates on coming to Tottenham, it only stands to reason that Spurs own 25 year old star central defender is thoroughly uninterested in leaving the club and views his long term future still being at N17. Van de Ven can form a great center back partnership over the years for club and country with Van Hecke as the two really get to know each other, though, of course, Tottenham fans will still dream of the sensational Luka Vuskovic being in there, too.
