Tottenham Hotspur's summer 2026 transfer strategy is entirely up in the air for a few reasons. Firstly, they just confirmed a new manager in Roberto De Zerbi, who will be given a lot of power in terms of transfer strategy as part of the package meant to convince him to join the side.
And that brings the second point, which is that Tottenham are a club facing an existential threat. They could very well be relegated this season, sitting a mere solitary point above rivals West Ham United. If Spurs are relegated, that seriously limits the kinds of players they can bring in this summer, and even if they are not relegated, they will not have European football to fall back on and will not exactly be desirable to top players.
So previous transfer targets like Omar Marmoush, Adam Wharton, and Yan Diomande who either play for elite clubs or are being courted by elite clubs are off the table. But perhaps if Spurs can get lucky, someone like winger Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco, who is still on a team in European place albeit not a powerhouse, can be an absolute dream target to fortify an area of weakness.
Maghnes Akliouche is now available
Akliouche has been on the Tottenham transfer radar for about a year. They could have pretty easily signed him this past winter transfer window, but Johan Lange did not want to panic buy on a winger when he had no depth at the position and serious attacking issues, instead choosing to spend even more in wages on an even worse (and older) player in Conor Gallagher. But he wasn't panicking, you know.
Digression aside, a new report from L'Equipe states that the 24 year old Akliouche is now expected to leave Monaco at the end of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season. Not only does this information make Tottenham Hotspur look even worse for not seriously pursuing Akliouche in the winter when he presumably would have been available, but it now makes it clear that he is on the table in the summer.
At this point, Akliouche may no longer be open to joining Spurs, but after they sold Brennan Johnson, they could use another winger. Akliouche can play on either side and compete with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, and Wilson Odobert for minutes on the right. On the left, the only options are Mathys Tel and Odobert. If Kulu is OK with that knee injury of his, Spurs are not desperate for Akliouche, but he would easily be the best of their realistic winger targets available.
