Tottenham Hotspur center midfielder Lucas Bergvall added to the drama at N17 this week, as he joined Luka Vuskovic in requesting a transfer out of the club. He is apparently not happy with his lack of minutes as a No. 8 and does not see a lot of playing time in the future under Roberto De Zerbi, so rather than staying with Spurs to compete, Bergvall wants to call it quits and seek minutes elsewhere.

So while Spurs are busy trying to add quality to the midfield and sign stars like Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes to beef up their base, they are now having to consider the future of Bergvall, who does not indeed appear to be a player high on De Zerbi's list.

But there are other clubs that are going to be interested in Bergvall and are already lining up. In fact, clubs as big as Real Madrid were interested in the 20 year old during the season, and Chelsea and Aston Villa have made frequent checks for the Swedish international, who is competing at the 2026 World Cup this summer.

The worst landing spot for Lucas Bergvall

Now, according to a report from Jacob Tanswell of The Athletic, there is yet another Premier League club with interest in Lucas Bergvall. Nottingham Forest have identified the Swedish gem as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson, who is fully expected to join a big club like Manchester City or Manchester United this summer after a breakout 2025/26 Premier League season in which he was one of the top flight's best midfielders.

Nottingham Forest would be an absolute nightmare scenario for Tottenham Hotspur, even worse than Chelsea. Because even though Spurs and Chelsea are bigger rivals, at least Chelsea would be a valid next step for Bergvall.

Moving to Forest would be a huge blow to Spurs to see a top young player choose them over the Lilywhites, and then it would be even worse if he were to ball out there, become a huge star in the Premier League like Anderson, and then end up at a club like Chelsea or Manchester City for the next decade anyway.

That is the sort of nightmare scenario Spurs are staring down, and there is definitely no love lost between these two fan bases after the Morgan Gibbs-White transfer saga last summer transfer window in which the England international was on the verge of joining Spurs but a deal was mooted after Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis complained to the Premier League.
