The first glimpse of Thomas Frank's Tottenham was caught on Saturday afternoon at the humble abode that is the Madejski Stadium, and it was the new boys who stole the show.

Results are typically inconsuquential in July, but Frank's reign nonetheless got off to a winning start. Goals after the break helped Spurs to a 2-0 victory.

22 players were used in the victory, with Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison, Richarlison, Manor Solomon and Radu Dragusin the most notable absentees.

There was lots to like, and we received a few answers regarding Frank's potential default system of choice. The 4-2-3-1 morphed into a 4-2-4 during the build-up phase, with online tacticos depticting similarities to a Roberto De Zerbi-coached build-up, which uses depth as a means to progress upfield, and is particularly effective at creating artificial transitions.

But anyway, let's not bore you with tactical talk. We can delve deeper into that as the summer progresses. Now's the time to wax lyrical over Saturday's stars: Mohammed Kudus and Luka Vuskovic.

Mohammed Kudus & Luka Vuskovic shine in pre-season win over Reading

Frank's starting line up at the Madejski was strong, with three of the four starting defenders from the Europa League final involved from the outset, as was Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, Brennan Johnson, and Dominic Solanke.

There was early promise, but the positive tempo from the opening exchanges eventually drifted. It started to feel like a proper pre-season fixture just before half-time.

The break allowed Frank to switch things up, with the boss opting for a new XI entirely. £55m arrival Kudus made his bow, as did teenage defender Vuskovic, who signed for the club two years ago but couldn't officially join until he turned 18.

There's been plenty of buzz surrounding the young Croatian centre-back, and Vuskovic certainly caught the eye on Saturday. Vuskovic's unique goal-scoring threat from defence manifested during his loan spell at Westerlo last season, and he was wreaking havoc in the final third at the Madejski. It was from Kudus' outswinging corner that Vuskovic leapt highest and flicked on for Will Lankshear to convert our first goal of the summer.

Kudus combined with Vuskovic again to double our lead, with the marauding defender finishing superbly from the edge of the area.

I think it's fair to say that the teenager will be a part of Frank's first team squad next season.

As for Kudus, the Ghanaian perhaps produced the standout sequence of the contest, breaking free down the right-hand side after resisting contact superbly and combining with Djed Spence. He's going to be lots of fun, and we saw him pop up across the pitch in a bid to affect proceedings.

The Morgan Gibbs-White fiasco shouldn't overshadow just how good a signing this could be. With a full pre-season with Frank ahead of him, I expect Kudus to hit the ground running right away in N17. His debut was laden with promise.

Onto Luton.
