A lot has changed about Tottenham Hotspur since the club and its former Chairman formally agreed to part ways at the end of the summer 2025 transfer window, and while that was not at all evident during a horrendous winter transfer window, Roberto De Zerbi has helped make the most of a Tottenham without Levy hold the club back from making real blockbuster transfers.
Already, Spurs have transformed their squad with three real big splashes in Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali. Spurs were willing to spend whatever it took to sign premium players their manager specifically requested, and you could have never imagined Levy spending 185 million pounds combined on Tonali or Fernandes - or even 50 million pounds on Van Hecke with a year left on his contract. And still more signings are expected with De Zerbi pounding the table for left wingers Savinho and Cody Gakpo.
There is another big change Tottenham have made this summer transfer window that was not evidenet under Daniel Levy, and it is a change that can help Spurs make even more of those big moves, likeTonali and Fernandes, if they are willing to capitalize on its benefits.
Daniel Levy just would not sell in the past
Levy and Tottenham were notoriously terrible sellers. They would never sell players at the right time so that the manager could refresh the squad, and everyone knows that the burnout and subsequent downturn in results that sabotaged Mauricio Pochettino was Levy actively and incompetently managing departing players so that Poch could bring in those that he needed.
The probelm was that Levy was so obsessed with value in nebulous terms a venture capitalist leader that he could not understand the best way to improve and even generate revenue as a club to win games, and you can't win games if you keep endlessly keeping players who are not good enough to win silverware.
Since Levy's departure, Tottenham Hotspur have been getting rid of unwanted players to refresh the squad. Brennan Johnson was a great sale in the winter for the best fee they could have ever gotten for a well below average Premier League winger. And Tottenham didn't sit around worrying about haggling for every penny, selling Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, and Luka Vuskovic this summer with potentially Guglielmo Vicario and Pape Matar Sarr leaving soon.
Tottenham are not selling these players for max profit and are not worrying about convincing them to stay. They want to be the best team in the Premier League, and that means selling players they don't want or who don't want to be there, using that revenue to sign better players who do want to be at the club.
