Long-time Manchester United man Marcus Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan in La Liga with Barcelona, and just like many suspected, the England international played significantly much better outside of the Premier League and the pressure of the English media around Old Trafford, even though Barcelona are an even bigger club with just as much pressure.

Rashford showed his technical quality and raw talent, and while Robert Lewandowski and others pointed out that even at Barca, his inconsistency and inability to put it all together can be frustrating, he was still an asset.

But Barcelona will be unable to buy Rashford permanently due to their financial situation and his massive wages, so after a loan season that was successful enough that Barca were actively working to sign the forward permanently, Rashy will head back to Old Trafford looking for that permanent move away.

Maybe Tottenham will go after the biggest names

According to a report from the Daily Mail's Chris Wheeler, via Spurs Global, there are a number of big clubs in the Premier League and around Europe with either current interest or potential interest in Marcus Rashford. Tottenham Hotspur are among those with tangible interest in Rashford right now, per Wheeler, along with North London rivals Arsenal and Aston Villa. Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and even Real Madrid are potential candidates to get involved, too.

Rashford to Tottenham seems almost ridiculous on paper, because Rashford made an insane 14 million euros for Barcelona last season, even accounting for the wage cut he accepted in order to move from Manchester United for a year.

But the fact that Tottenham are interested in Rashford despite the wage concerns is huge, because it means that maybe, just maybe, Spurs really are serious about thinking about expanding their wage bill for big names. They already set a new wage record last winter transfer window on another English former Premier League star at a La Liga giant in center midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham have an even bigger need for a left winger than a center midfielder, and the fact that Rashford can also play better as a striker than Spurs current strikers is another plus. So if Spurs were wiling to pay Gallagher, then surely they would not be as opposed to paying Rashford.

The chances of Rashford joining Tottenham to compete with Mathys Tel on the left wing are pretty slim, but it seems like there is a small chance. And the larger point of even thinking about Rashford as an option given his name recognition and Man United and Barca pedigree is good news in the grand scheme of things.
