Tottenham Hotspur right winger and midfielder Dejan Kulusevski has been one of the team's standout players since arriving a couple of years ago from Juventus, fitting in nicely as a right sided forward or even a box to box midfielder and playmaker for the Lilywhites.

But Spurs have not been abel to benefit from the Swedish international's gifts for more than a year. After sustaining a knee injury that was initially only supposed to keep him out for a month or two, Kulu has been absent since the end of the 2024/25 season with no sign of a return in sight. He played zero minutes for Tottenham in the 2025/26 season, never practiced a lick, and is out of the 2026 World Cup to boot.

There is no time table for a return for Kulusevski, whom Spurs are hoping to see back at some point in the 2026/27 season. Although nobody has raised alarms on Kulu's career being threatened, it has been implied that everyone is just hoping to see him back on the pitch at all.

Tottenham are not just after an LW

According to a new report from Paul O Keefe, with all the transfer rumors focused on left wing options for Tottenham Hotspur this summer transfer window, he has the impression that Spurs are also looking to make a new signing on the right wing this year.

Tottenham have Mohammed Kudus as the main starting left footed right winger, and Dejan Kulusevski would presumably be locked in as a very strong No. 2 if he can be healthy. So if Spurs are looking for another signing despite the fact that Wilson Odobert was great on the right after Kudus's injury in 2025/26 and Savinho can also play on the right, then that means they may not be counting on anything from Kulusevski at all.

That implies a poor prognosis for Kulusevski this season or simply that Spurs are not expecting anything at all from the 26 year old former Serie A star in the 2026/27 season. While that is good to take the pressure off Kulu as he recovers, it is yet another subtle sign that Kulu's sitaution is very serious, if not outright dire.

Possible right wing options for Tottenham include the players they did not sign in the winter transfer window after selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, namely Maghnes Akliouche, the young Monaco star whom Spurs had interest in last winter and the previous summer.
