Tottenham Hotspur now only have weeks to go until the January transfer window opens, and after scoring victories over Brentford and Slavia Praha by a combined scoreline of 5-0, things are finally starting to look better for Thomas Frank and Co. after a series of poor results previously, sparked by an unacceptable 4-1 defeat to arch rivals Arsenal.
Although Mathys Tel has been shining and Wilson Odobert has shown potential on that pesky left wing, the void left behind by club legend Son Heung-min has remained unfilled. And therefore, with Randal Kolo Muani performing well at striker in the previous weeks when healthy, left winger has become the premier need for Spurs entering the winter market.
No player has stood out more as a dream transfer target for Tottenham than Antoine Semenyo. Previously on the Tottenham transfer radar in the summer window, Semenyo stayed put, but he has only increased his value so far in the 2025/26 season as only Erling Haaland has been better than the Bournemouth breakout superstar this campaign.
Arsenal and Tottenham want a shot
The thing is, every top club in England wants a taste of Semenyo, too. And although Spurs have been mentioned alongside title contenders Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal as among the favorites to land the rising star with an enticing 65 million pound release clause that will be active this winter, once again, those intial reports may have proven too good to be true for Tottenham.
According to a new report from Tom Barclay of The Sun, Antoine Semenyo is now hesitant to join Tottenham Hotspur and actually favors a transfer to all of the above of Arsenal, Manchester City, or Liverpool within the Premier League over a move to Spurs.
There is nothing set in stone about this report from Barclay either, and it does not preclude Tottenham from signing him. But it is also a believable report, given Tottenham have lost to these top teams for the most coveted transfer targets on the market time and time again.
Tottenham have to prove to their own fans that they can consistently win players like Semenyo, elite wingers who can score goals and create and who are coveted by the true title contenders. If the goal for Tottenham is to win the Premier League, then these are the kinds of players they have to sign. Granted, they grabbed Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus this past summer, but a winter swoop for Semenyo is going to be tough to swing.
And with Arsenal already roasting Spurs on the pitch and on the transfer market for the likes of Eberechi Eze (and even Christian Norgaard), Semenyo could be the next one to fall.
