Tottenham Hotspur were highly interested in Savinho last summer and viewed him as their top transfer target on the left wing after club legend Son Heung-min's departure to MLS. But Manchester City decided not to sell Savinho despite Pep Guardiola burying him deep on the depth chart, as Guardiola still valued Savinho's profile and a few key members of the front office did not agree upon selling him without a better replacement.

And though Savinho could have been expendable in the winter transfer window after the signing of Antoine Semenyo, an injury prevented him from being available. So now heading into the summer 2026 transfer window with Roberto De Zerbi as their manager, Tottenham remain very interested in the Brazilian international.

According to a report from Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, the chances of Tottenham Hotspur - or another club - being able to sign Savinho may be higher this year. Although Bajkowski writes that those in the front office at Manchester City are still huge fans of the former Girona man and love his potential, the move to Hugo Viana as the sporting director means Man City will potentially be more open to sales than under the previous regime.

Man City have a new regime

So even though Manchester City are not less high on Savinho, Tottenham have a greater chance at signing him by virtue of a policy change. That is great news for Johan Lange and Roberto De Zerbi, because it means a key reenforcement and an exciting wide playmaker could be coming through the door at an affordable price this summer transfer window - and it won't be because Savinho has suffered a blemish or is less appealing as a player.

Last season, the former La Liga Player of the Season candidate only logged 821 minutes for Pep Guardiola in the Premier League, but he started four Champions League games and averaged 3.6 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn per game.

Savinho is only 22 years of age despite having a few years of experience at the top level, and so he is the kind of profile Tottenham really like. He is good enough to start now, he has superstar potential, and he is experienced enough at pressured clubs, even competing for a La Liga title briefly at Girona before winning a league title with Manchester City. If the price is right, De Zerbi could have a new winger on his hands.
