Tottenham's best player is also the biggest winner from a Savinho transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have been pursuing Manchester City star Savinho for nearly a year now. Last summer late in the transfer window, Spurs forged ahead with serious interest in the Brazilian international, but Man City were understandably uninterested in letting the high upside U23 winger go, especially to a Premier League Big Six rival.

Well, a year later and with a new front office and a new manager after Pep Guardiola's departure, Manchester City are more open to selling Savinho than before, even though they acknowledge his upside. And even though Spurs, who finished a mere 17th in the Premier League again last season, are a step down on paper, for a guy who only got to start seven games in a crowded Man City front line, Spurs are actually a step up for Spurs.

There has been increasing optimism over the past couple of days that Savinho to Spurs is imminent, and transfer insiders like @szyexcl are relaying information that a deal will indeed happen, and fans themselves suddenly feel confident about the Man City star heading to N17 after Spurs star Xavi Simons posted photo of the two together. The same @szyexcl even says that ever since last year when the Lilywhites first went after Savinho, Simons has been actively in touch with the Brazilian in a recruiting effort.

Xavi Simons is going to love Savinho

Not only is a great to see how much Simons believes in the club and is trying to bring star power to Tottenham Hotspur, but it's also the case that no single player on Spurs stands to benefit more from Saviho coming into the fold than Simons.

Savinho is an electrifying player who can take defenders on, hold width, and draw attention out on one wing - and it does not matter which wing it is, though he is actually better as a traditionally left footed left winger.

A former La Liga Player of the Season candidate for Girona in the 2023/24 season, Savinho had his team briefly flirting with title contention against Real Madrid, such was his ability to elevate an entire team. And for years before joining Spurs, whether at PSV or RB Leipzig, Simons was the same kind of a player who could carry the load for a team as a dribbler and progressor.

The thing is, playing for Tottenham is a lot harder in terms of having space and transition opportunities, and you could see, even with the improvements Roberto De Zerbi made, that Tottenham did not have enough space for Simons. Mohammed Kudus on the right can open things up, but he is more inverted and so is Mathys Tel on the left, who is basically a second striker.

What Simons needs is a guy like Savinho opposite from Kudus who can draw the defenders out to the touch line, giving Simons more space to work with. Savinho is one of the best one on one dribblers in the Premier League, like Kudus, except he is even quicker in those short areas. It's no wonder why Simons is so thrilled to have Savinho on the transfer radar.
