Fabrizio Romano has given his fabled "Here We Go", though there was never really any doubt that Marcos Senesi was joining Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent signing. Spurs had been in talks to sign Senesi for months, and while other big clubs were interested in the Premier League breakout defender, the Argentinian international only wanted a move to North London above the rest.

Senesi is a potential replacement for compatriot Cristian Romero, the captain who does not appear to be committed to Tottenham long term. While the jury is still out on Romero and he is the more dynamic player, between the two of them, Senesi definitely had the better 2025/26 Premier League season and would have been playing in European football - Spurs won't after finishing 17th - had he stayed with Bournemouth.

The wild thing about Senesi going to Spurs - and what really shows you the pull Spurs still have and will always have - is the fact that he actually is not an ideal starter for Tottenham and is more of a veteran backup player, even if Cristian Romero makes his expected departure from N17.

Marcos Senesi may not even be a starter for Tottenham

It's still unclear what will happen to phenom Luka Vuskovic, but if you ask the average Tottenham Hotspur supporter, their decision is unequivocal. Vuskovic needs to be back at Hotspur Way in 2026/27, and he needs to be starting after being one of the best players in European football last season on loan at Hamburg, making even the Bundesliga's biggest curmudgeons on punditry like Lothar Matthaus swoon.

In an ideal world, Vuskovic and Micky van de Ven would be the starting center backs for Tottenham next season, providing the club wit a young, dynamic pairing who can cover ground, battle with athletic forwards, and play the ball well. Vuskovic is 100 percent a must start, going off of what he did last season at Hamburg.

Marcos Senesi and Kevin Danso, though, are both great players. Danso is comfortable with the ball at his feet, and Senesi was so good last season for Bournemouth under Andoni Iraola that he is a better ball playing center half than even Romero. And since Vuskovic is young and Micky van de Ven can be a bit inconsistent, Senesi will get time to spell both.

Tottenham know they need depth, and with Radu Dragusin easily expendable, these four center backs could be a great core to move the club forward. Senesi does not crack the lineup of ideal starters, but he should still get plenty of starts himself.
