Tottenham might get the chance to spark their rebuild with the signing of an experienced striker if they can beat the drop. Spurs are still just two points ahead of the bottom three, and while they have their fate in their own hands, there is plenty of work still to do.
If they do beat the drop, Roberto De Zerbi is going to want to overhaul this squad, which is clearly not good enough after back-to-back bottom-half finishes. Likely, he was already promised that opportunity when taking the job, but it is likely conditional on staying in the top flight.
Tottenham eye Serhou Guirassy of Dortmund
Several players have already been linked, and according to a fresh report from Sky Sports in Germany, Borussia Dortmund frontman Serhou Guirassy is a possible option for Spurs.
The 30-year-old frontman has scored 21 goals and assisted six so far this season. He is said to prefer an exit this summer. Guirassy is said to have a good relationship with head coach Niko Kovac, but he does not like the current style of play.
That could lead to a move this summer, and reports claim AC Milan are already considering a £43.3million offer. But Tottenham have also been linked as they look to mix up their front line this summer.
Richarlison is always being linked with an exit, while Dominic Solanke has struggled to stay fit consistently throughout his time at the club. With Randal Kolo Muani unlikely to stick around, De Zerbi is going to want a new striker in place, and Guirassy has the goal-scoring qualities required.
The forward has been consistent both in Bundesliga and the Champions League, and he has experience aplenty.
“Serhou is World Class," Dortmund boss Kovac once said of the striker. He added in a separate address: "He's like our life insurance at the moment. He's always on and has to get through it. The fact that it's Ramadan now doesn't make it any easier for him, but he's an absolute professional and he'll manage that too."
Guirassy is under contract until 2028, and while he is 30 years of age, Dortmund can still demand a solid fee to sell this summer, especially on the back of a campaign that has seen him score consistently.
Such players are hard to find, and Tottenham know that all too well. They will have to dig dep to buy one this summer.
