Center back Radu Dragusin was a former Juventus prospect who never got a chance to shine, nor did he ever really step up during his time in Turin. But when he moved to Genoa, Dragusin suddenly flashed as a no nonsense, one on one defender and one of the top up and coming center backs in the Italian top flight, leading to a winter move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The problem is that Dragusin has failed to translate to the Premier League. Dragusin has been given chances to start, including this season after recovering from a severe injury, and while he has impressed with his wilingness to work for the team and isn't a bad defender, he has been a poor fit for Spurs. His work on the ball has been particularly appalling, and both he and Spurs have been actively trying to facilitate a transfer.
Due to injuries to the back line and depth questions, Tottenham did not sell Dragusin this January despite a lot of interest from big clubs in Italy - bigger than Genoa - and it sounds like there were other high profile suitors in the winter, too.
Radu Dragusin has interest from RB Leipzig
Radu Dragusin's agent Florin Manea stated in an interview with Romanian outlet iAM Sport's Stucan podcast that the center back had both a 10 million euro per season offer from a club in the Saudi Pro League and interest from RB Leipzig on the table in the winter transfer window.
Now, obviously agents blow a lot of smoke, and Dragusin's agent is particularly boisterous about advocating fo his client. However, there is no reason to believe that anything he is saying is false. Not only were the details he discussed in the podcast specific, but it wouldn't be smart for him to lie about specific clubs like Leipzig, particularly ones big enough and interested in up and comers that they would go for future clients.
Leipzig's interest in Dragusin is much more surprising than interest from the Saudi Pro League or Serie A, both given Dragusin's playing style and profile. However, it is easy to forget that he is still only 24 despite getting first team action for Juventus about five years ago, so he is in the age range that Leipzig do look for.
Dragusin was a good footballer in Serie A at Genoa who simply didn't fit Tottenham Hotspur. With Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai potentially coming back to the first team after positive loans (an understatement for Vuk) in the Bundesliga, it should not be too hard to offload Dragusin in the summer transfer window if there is indeed all this interest.
