Borussia Dortmund came close to causing a major Champions League upset against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, with a standout performance from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens – a player who has been recently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Playing at the iconic Bernabeu, Borussia Dortmund stormed into a 2-0 lead by half-time, leaving Madrid stunned and on the verge of a shock defeat.

The first goal came from Donyell Malen, who netted after half an hour, but it was his assist for Bynoe-Gittens’ goal just four minutes later that grabbed attention.

The 20-year-old winger finished off a slick move, doubling Dortmund's lead and silencing the home crowd.

Malen, showing excellent footwork, weaved past Madrid's Ferland Mendy and delivered a perfect cross to the back post.

Bynoe-Gittens, with great awareness and movement, was in the right spot to slot the ball into an open net, outpacing Lucas Vasquez and escaping the attention of Eder Militao.

The young Englishman is really making his mark in Europe, and this was his third Champions League goal of the season, taking his total tally to five in all competitions. In doing so, he also became the youngest-ever Englishman to score against Real Madrid in the competition.

Despite Dortmund’s strong start, the second half saw a typical Real Madrid comeback. The Spanish giants scored five goals, including a hat-trick from Vinicius Jr., and ended up with a commanding 5-2 victory. Three of those goals came in the final ten minutes, as Dortmund’s dream of a famous win fell apart late on.

What makes Bynoe-Gittens' performance particularly interesting for Tottenham fans is the growing speculation linking him with a move to North London.

Reports suggest Spurs are keeping a close eye on the winger, and he is believed to be a top target for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Having started his career at Manchester City before moving to Germany in 2020, Bynoe-Gittens has developed rapidly and is now becoming one of Dortmund’s key players.

Tottenham’s interest in the youngster is understandable. His pace, intelligence, and ability to influence games at such a young age make him a potential future star, and with Spurs looking to bolster their attack, Bynoe-Gittens could be a perfect fit.
