Young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky became the biggest Tottenham Hotspur hero of the season during the relegation battle, turning his campaign around after a horrible night in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid in which he was scapegoated, subbed off by Igor Tudor before the half after slipping all over the notorious Atleti pitch.
Kinsky was able to get an opportunity at redemption after Guglielmo Vicario, who had been far worse than that all season long, needed hernia surgery. And the Czech goalkeeper came back with a vengeance, outplaying every other goalkeeper in the league during that final stretch of the season to help ensure Spurs survival in the top flight.
Well, since then, Roberto De Zerbi has stood by Kinsky as his No. 1 over Gugilelmo Vicario, whom Spurs fans are hoping will soon be transferred permanently back to Serie A after his awful 2025/26 season, and he has also stood by him against signing any other keepers. Though Tottenham brought in his compatriot Martin Dubravka, that was clearly just done to give Kinsky veteran cover as the No. 2.
Antonin Kinsky is still on top
Recently, a few dubious reporters have tried to bring back the old James Trafford transfer rumors, and while the Manchester City No. 2 is a wonderful young goalkeeper, he is not Antonin Kinsky, and it would be very surprising if Spurs were to go against the recent contract for Kinsky and sign a new keeper to undermine his No. 1 status.
And Michael Bridge of Sky Sports has confirmed that the media speculation of Tottenham Hotspur going in for Trafford is wide of the mark. Tottenham are not currently pursuing the Man City backup and do not consider Trafford to be a target right now.
That means Antonin Kinksy is the guy indeed, and while Tottenham fans were always sure of that and had even been wanting Kinsky to get opportunities months before he actually did get an extended run with Guglielmo Vicario out, it is nonetheless great for them to hear reassurance that another top keeper is not coming in to compete with Kinsky.
Tottenham have already spent 185 million pounds on midfielders Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, and they have even bigger needs to take care of in the front three, rather than spending another 40-50 million pounds on a goalkeeper who may not even be better than Kinsky in the short and long term for Tottenham anyway.
