Tottenham 'keeping tabs' on winger told to leave Manchester United

Tottenham are supposedly 'keeping tabs' on Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, although such a pursuit would go against one of Thomas Frank's key policies.

Garnacho broke through at Man Utd as a teenager and looked set to blossom into a cornerstone of the new regime. However, his relationship with Ruben Amorim has instead been complicated.

The winger was left frustrated by Amorim's decision to play him for just 20 minutes in the Europa League final (lol), and the manager reportedly told the Argentine to find a new club this summer. United were interested in allowing Garnacho depart in January—'pure profit', and all that—but neither Chelsea or Napoli went through with the deal.

With his United career seemingly over, several Premier League clubs are taking notice.

The Daily Mail (via the BBC) understand that Frank's Spurs are one of the clubs interested in Garnacho, along with Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Despite confirming the permanent signing of Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, we're still in the market for another attacker—likely a wide forward—and Garnacho does fit the bill in terms of what Spurs need. The 20-year-old is a willing outlet, who, like so many wingers, prefers to drift infield rather than hug the touchline.

He's a distinct threat in transition and is an impressive athlete, but is not yet a master in one-on-one situations and has often frustrated United supporters through sub-par decision-making in the final third.

I don't mind Garnacho as a tactical fit under Frank, but, for me, signing the Argentine could compromise Frank's "no d***heads" policy which he outlined on The High Performance Podcast at the end of 2024.

I'm not explicitly saying that Garnacho's the type—in case you weren't aware, I don't know the 20-year-old personally—but the Argentine hasn't painted himself in a particularly sparkling light over the past few months. Garnacho was dropped from the United squad for Amorim's first Manchester Derby due to attitude problems in training, Bruno Fernandes cited the winger's early season struggles in 2024/25 due to his poor attitude in pre-season, while Erik ten Hag noted that Garnacho overcame attitude issues at the start of his United career.

Notice a theme?

""It’s so important for us to have good people. ‘No dickheads’, only good people. It’s not because we don’t want personality, or an edge, but we want people who actually care.”"
Thomas Frank

His brother's a bit of a nightmare, too; contributing to Garnacho's heavily inflated sense of self and reportedly leaking team news to the media.

As I said, I like Garnacho, the player. He's young, immature and there's room for growth on and off the field. However, the 20-year-old is not a guy Frank would want to build his Spurs project around.
