Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been rooting for Antonin Kinsky to succeed longer than just this season, and they had been hoping he would get opportunities to start for months in the 2025/26 Premier League season when it was obvious that Guglielmo Vicario was not cutting it with the sheer volume of mistakes - not to mention his poor leadership and screaming at the defenders for errors that were honestly his own.
Naturally, the horrendous Thomas Frank was not going to be the one to pull the underperforming veteran and give a young star a chance, but Spurs fans were appalled when Igor Tudor gave Kinsky the keys against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League knockouts on an almost illegaly slippery pitch.
The result was predictable. A rusty Kinsky slipped and slid his way around the capital, and as he was subbed off in the first half, Tudor did not even acknowledged him. It was a moment that confirmed Tudor had to go as soon as possible, but it was also a crossroads moment for Kinsky that could have easily been his last as a Premier League goalkeeper.
Tottenham are 100 percent behind Kinsky
Instead, Spurs had one last opportunity for him with Guglielmo Vicario continuing to struggle through pain due to a hernia. Roberto De Zerbi turned to Kinsky, and the Czech goalkeeper never looked back, leading Spurs to safety as their best player with insane saves, leadership they did not see from Vicario, and an utter lack of mistakes while playing beautifully on the ball. Kinsky rose to the occasion and became an inspiration.
Tottenham Hotspur are ready to make Kinsky their No. 1 goalkeeper. Per Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic, Tottenham have formally opened extension talks with Antonin Kinsky, which will be music to the ears of Spurs fans. De Zerbi is backing Kinsky to the fullest, but the contract talk nor the talk of Kinsky being the No. 1 alone are the most noteworthy.
Tottenham quietly made a goalkeeper signing this week in former Newcastle veteran Martin Dubravka, who has been around the Premier League, mostly as a No. 2, since 2018. Dubravka is 37, knows the league well, can step into the job in a moment's notice, and, yes, is Czech.
Essentially, Dubravka is the perfect backup for Kinsky. His signing is further evidence that Vicario will be sold, but it also means that Tottenham are going to make Kinsky the 1 and Dubravka the 2 without signing someone like James Trafford, Bart Verbruggen, or Lucas Chevalier to compete with Kinsky and replace Vicario. Kinsky made a massive impression on the fans and De Zerbi just as much, and Tottenham are proving they will back the young man in 2026.
