For months now, disappointing Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been on the chopping block. Once regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in European football and even wanted by German giants Bayern Munich during his days saving Empoli from Serie A relegation, Vicario became a liability for Spurs in a difficult season that nearly saw the Lilywhites relegated to the EFL Championship.
Actually, Vicario needing hernia surgery and taking himself out of the lineup - and he was presumably playing even worse because of the pain - played a key role in Spurs surviving. Antonin Kinksy finally got an extended run of games and made his unlucky slips against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League a total thing of the past, performing as well as any goalkeeper in the Premier League with insane saves and none of the mistakes Vicario was making.
Kinsky has a real shot at being Spurs No. 1 next season despite the continued interest in Manchester City man James Trafford, but Vicario is clear even more out the door in North London than before. The problem is that Kinsky may have exposed Vic's issues to such an extent that Inter Milan, previously a lock to sign Vicario and bring him back to Italian football, may be having second thoughts about the ex Empoli star.
Tottenham could have a big bidding war on their hands
But even as the trail to the Serie A champions have cooled, their greatest rivals are now in the mix to up the ante for Spurs. According to a report from top Italian transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, via The Spurs Web, Italian giants Juventus are now also interested in signing Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer 2026 transfer window.
Vicario could not cope with the pressure in the Premier League at Spurs, and the weight of the Old Lady's crest is even heavier, especially with how dreadful they have been over the last several years since losing Cristiano Ronaldo, who was actually the only thing holding the Bianconeri from freefall.
But Vic can't be anywhere near as bad as Juve' s current No .1. Michele Di Gregorio was, like Vicario, an amazing goalkeeper at a smaller club in Monza, doing heroics to keep them alive in Serie A. He started out great at Juve, too, and was one of the top keepers in Serie A at one point, maybe even better than Vicario. This season, though, he has been a disaster. So if Juve want Vicario, that could wake Inter's interest again and drive a bidding war between Italy's two biggest clubs, which is perfect news for Spurs.
