One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer 2025 window was Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White. Spurs had apparently activated a little known 60 million pound release clause in the contract of the Nottingham Forest star, but Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis threw a fit that the clause was not valid and got the entire deal to be mooted with MGW re-siging a new contract with the club.
That Gibbs-White had such a sensational season, especially in front of goal, as Forest outperformed a Tottenham side that needed Matchday 38 to spare itself from relegation only added to the insult, but there have been rumblings already in June that Spurs could be back in for Gibbs-White.
For now, the main priorities for Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi are players at the base of the midfield in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, and Adam Wharton may also be a favored option. Tottenham already have Xavi Simons and James Maddison as attacking midfielders, but Gibbs-White is different gravy, particularly when it comes to finding the back of the net, which is Spurs biggest issue as a team.
Morgan Gibbs-White is still a dream get
According to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridges in an appearance on the Last Word on Spurs show, Morgan Gibbs-White still thinks very highly of Tottenham Hotspur.
That may not seem like much, especially after Gibbs-White signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest, but if Spurs spend enough money to sign MGW, which may be more palatable to them after a career yera, then they could easliy convince Evangelos Marinakis. The Nottingham Forest owner is stubborn, but he comes across like a man who suddenly becomes a lot more sensible when the bottom line makes sense to him.
Tottenham fans want to see players at the club who really want to be there and believe in the message, which is the case for people like Mohammed Kudus and James Maddison. It has been frustrating, for example, seeing how easily some of the young crew are giving up on the team, with Lucas Bergvall and Luka Vuskovic recently handing in transfer requests.
If Nottingham Forest were up in arms over losing Gibbs-White for 60 million pounds before he put up 15 goals last season, then it stands to reason they will want 80-90 million pounds for the player, similar to what Newcastle are asking for Sandro Tonali or West Ham are asking for Mateus Fernandes.
