Tottenham Hotspur have brought in two notable free agents to bolster the defense in center back Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth and Liverpool icon Andrew Robertson over at left back, and they are also heavily in the mix as the top favorite to sign Brighton central defender Jan Paul van Hecke, the old star pupil of manager Roberto De Zerbi.
But Spurs are starting to hit the recruiting trail for forwards, as Spurs need goals and attacking quality even more than defensive solidity. Savinho of Manchester City has never left their transfer radar, and there is guarded optimism that the explosive Brazilian winger can become the new starter across from successful blockbuster summer 2025 addition Mohammed Kudus.
Tottenham need a new striker, too. Their leading goal scorer last season was Richarlison with 11 goals, and even he was not remotely good enough for a position that has been in dire straits since Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich.
Roberto De Zerbi is not high on Richarlison
According to reporting from Alasdair Gold of Football London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi unsurprisingly wants the Lilywhites to sign a new striker this summer 2026 transfer window. And by bringing in a new striker, the runway could be clear, per Gold, for the Brazilian No. 9 Richarlison to finally exit N17 after a couple of years of transfer rumors.
Richy has yet to live up to the hype since his move from Everton, and whlie he works hard for the team, his lack of all around quality has been evident. Though Dominic Solanke was worse last season, the more expensive Bournemouth signing appears to be in a safer position than Richarlison, as Gold stated that if the decision were to come down to selling one or the other, De Zerbi would actually favor keeping Solanke - reportedly only a huge bid from another club could sway the England international's sale.
While it makes sense for Richarlison to be sold first based on age and all around quality reasons, Solanke was also a huge disappointment last season and has not shown that he is worth 65 million pounds yet despite some good moments in 2024/25 en route to a Europa League title win.
Regardless of who stays or goes, Tottenham truly do need another No. 9 up top as the starter, and Randal Kolo Muani going back to PSG after a poor loan spell is not the only player who needs to be cleared out. Many Spurs fans would like to see all three strikers gone, but it is more realistic for one to stay; Solanke appears to be the favorite.
