Tottenham Hotspur were able to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season on the final Matchday of the campaign, and while staying up in the top flight and the excitmenet of Roberto De Zerbi have assuaged the doubts of key players like Micky van de Ven, others like Cristian Romero seem to be headed out the door.
Although Spurs won't worry much about losing Romero in the grand scheme of things, the bigger worry for many Tottenham fans is young stars of the future potentially bolting to what they see as greener pastures. Because even though Spurs were also 17th in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season, they made it to the Champions League after winning the Europa League; there will be no European football for Spurs in 2026/27, though.
The good news is that Tottenham have one less young talent to worry about leaving the club in 2026. Because according to Zinny Boswell of Sky Sports News, Mathys Tel would ideally like to remain with Tottenham goign forward. His priority as a player is to remain in a stable environment, rather than moving around, and he wants to feel the trust and confidence of the club.
Mathys Tel is fully COYS
It sounds like Tel feels supported and confident at Tottenham Hotspur, and, honestly, he was the last player Spurs fans were worried about leaving. Even though Tel was thinking about leaving in the winter transfer window, those were mostly loan transfer rumors, and most people chalked that up to him being frustrated with the cowardly Thomas Frank stuffing him on the bench. And even Frank was able to convince Tel not to go out on loan anyway.
Mathys Tel only just confirmed his permanent arrival to N17 last summer from Bayern Munich after a successful six month loan in which he helped Tottenham win the Europa League. From Day One, Tel has absorbed himself in the atmosphere of the club and its ethos, showing that he is fully COYS and developing a strong rapport with the home fans.
The young Frenchman has all the tools to be a future superstar on the left wing, as he has that something special many of his teammates in the attack do not. By the end of the season during the Premier League relegation battle, Tel was Tottenham's one real attacking threat, capable of creating chances for himself and scoring goals from nothing. It is great to hear he is committed to Spurs.
