One of the biggest priorities for Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi this summer transfer window will be beefing up the midfield with highly intelligent and technical players who can progress the ball consistently off the dribble and in the passing game.
De Zerbi was able to make the veteran trio of Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha, and Conor Gallagher look more than passable in the middle of the park as Spurs fought themselves back to safety in the Premier League, so imagine what he can do for the Lilywhites with better players. In only a few games, for example, Xavi Simons looked like a world beater again for Spurs.
Now, Tottenham have always been partial to the Serie A players, so while Alex Scott, Curtis Jones, and Nico Gonzalez are quality center midfielders at top six clubs in the Premier League this season who have piqued Spurs interest, there is another great player to watch in the Italian top flight.
Tottenham can go back to the Serie A well
Many Spurs fans have been wanting to see their club go after Roma's underrated Manu Kone, as the Frenchman has been one of the most underrated midfielders in Europe for years, whether at Borussia Monchengladbach or Roma.
According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport's Andrea Pugliese, there is an opening for Kone to leave Rome this summer transfer window, and the Frenchman is actually the most likely big name to leave the Giallorossi this year.
That should have Tottenham Hotspur going crazy. Kone is an amazing dribbler between the lines and in tight spaces, he is great physically, and he knows how to make the right passes to get the ball forward with decent end product to boot. And he is better defensively than fellow Serie A alumn Rodrigo Bentancur.
Kone, if signed, would be Tottenham's best center midfielder on the team alongside Archie Gray, once Roberto De Zerbi figures out how to maximize the young Englishman in the 2026/27 season. Spurs are going to need better forwards for sure, but adding a quality footballer like Kone in the midfield will also open up a lot for the attackers, especially guys like Xavi Simons and then Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel on the wings.
Many people may have forgotten about Kone as an option, but the diehard Spurs faithful have not. And this report about Kone being on the verge of a summer transfer will be music to their ears.
