Tottenham Hotspur are looking for the next big gem in the midfield this summer transfer window. They already have two young stars of the future - and hopefully the present - in Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, with the former winning the Player of the Season for Tottenham from the supporters after playing the best ball on the team when everyone else was at their worst.

Right now, though the Spurs faithful dream of the likes of Adam Wharton from London rivals Crystal Palace or West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes, the only up and coming midfielder concretely linked to Spurs is EFL Championship standout Hayden Hackney.

But this summer at the 2026 World Cup in North America, there is one more name for Tottenham to place firmly on their radar, Eintracht Frankfurt playmaker Can Uzun, who was one of the few bright spots in an awful season for the Eagles.

Tottenham need to look for World Cup stars

Eintracht came into the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with a lot of fanfare as possible darkhorse sleepers to Borussia Dortmund, but they came nowhere close to the Champions League despite their prodigious talent.

According to a report from Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Can Uzun is "definitely one to watch" this summer at the World Cup. Though only Turkish Super Lig giants are concretely after the Turkish international, there are unnamed Premier League clubs interested in the 20 year old magician, who is said to be "open" to a transfer out of Frankfurt. Eintracht are expecting offers, and their sporting director Marcus Krosche is demanding around 60 million euros for the player.

Now that is a ton of money and a price point that will have to be reduced, unless, of course, Uzun really does blow up at the World Cup. And that proposition is more than plausible, as Turkey look like potential sleepers, already boasting two of the world's elite young talents in Juventus playmaker Kenan Yildiz and Real Madrid's master of the pass, Arda Guler.

Last season Uzun had eight goals and four assists in less than 1,200 minutes, showing real end product. He has enough quality as a progressor and defender to play as an 8 and not just a 10, and he has similarities to Xavi Simons, albeit less athletic and even more technical with his range of finishes and flicks and tricks. Tottenham need a deeper lying playmaker more, like the Hackney profile, but Uzun is a sleeper to keep on the radar this June and July.
