The Richarlison saga has annoyed Tottenham Hotspur fans, many of whom can't fathom why the club have ostracized their leading goal scorer from the 2026/27 Premier League season with the already injured Mykhaylo Mudryk as his replacement in the squad. Roberto De Zerbi basically gave Richarlison an ultimatum that he should finally take a side and leave, and while the manager wanting a mediocre, aging player gone from the squad is actually perfectly reasonable, the way he has done it and the last minute nature of the chaos has rubbed many fans the wrong way.
Also, Spurs did have a chance to sell Richy even after the Premier League transfer window, but they rejected a transfer offer from Trabzonspor of around 20 million euros, which was less than what Spurs were hoping for but, realistically, all that they were going to get for him.
Now, Spurs have to hope that a move back to Brazil can materialize so that they can sell Richarlison for any kind of money at all, as the Brazilian international is able to leave this winter transfer window by signing a pre agreed contract to exit as a free agent in 2027 after Spurs were unable - and most likely unwilling - to sign him to a one year contract extension.
Tottenham can't lose Richarlison for free
There is a lifeline for Tottenham Hotspur, though. According to a report from Brazilian outlet Atencao, Vascainos covering Brazilian Serie A side Vasco da Gama, the club that has most consistently shown interest in bringing Richarlison back to South America has just tabled a transfer offer to Spurs. They are willing to pay a total of 20 million euros for Richarlison, with 15 million euros fixed and 5 million euros available in bonuses. The club are reportedly confident that the Lilywhites will accept their offer, too.
And honestly, Tottenham would be very foolish not to take the offer. It is only a little below what Trabzonspor were offering, but with nobody willing to spend more than 20 million euros and pretty much zero interest in the player after almost every other transfer market has closed, it is either 15-20 million euros for Richarlison to Vasco da Gama or nothing at all.
Tottenham have spent a lot of money this summer transfer window, so they really aren't in a position to give up 20 million euros, potentially, for no reason other than spite. Richy is literally not even registered in the squad, and the relationship between himself and Roberto De Zerbi has been totally broken by the manager. They must accept and sell.
