Tottenham Hotspur star center back Luka Vuskovic recently returned to action from a knee injury for Bundesliga side Hamburg, and he is on a mission to continue to prove that he is the best young center back in world football - and one of the best center backs of any age.
And Spurs are on an even more desperate mission to ensure that the Croatian sensation remains at the N17. Right now, Vuskovic is finishing up his wildly successful one year loan deal with Hamburg, where he has turned the heads of virtually every elite club on the planet.
Johan Lange and Tottenham are working hard to keep him around, and their latest strategy is to get a bumper contract done so that Vuskovic will remain with Spurs for the foreseeable future. But that may be easier said than done.
Barcelona are in talks for Luka Vuskovic
Per a new report from Florian Plettenberg and Sky Sports Germany, Tottenham Hotspur are indeed so "desperate" to keep Luka Vuskovic at the club after his loan with Hamburg that they are plotting a "massive salary" raise. However, Vuskovic is still exploring his options with other top clubs interested, and Plettenberg even relays that super agent Pini Zahavi is in talks with Barcelona, who are one of the big clubs most interested in the star center back.
As if it were not already bad enough for Tottenham that Vuskovic and Zahavi are talking to one of the biggest clubs in Spanish football, the Hamburg track may not save them. One reason why Tottenham were not as worried about losing Vuskovic in the immediate term, even in the case of relegation from the Premier League this season, was the likelihood of another loan to Hamburg.
The entire rhetoric around Vuskovic and from the young central defender himself was that he wanted one more loan deal at Hamburg, not only for more seasoning but to play with his brother. Many Tottenham fans were skeptical about this, surmising that if he played so well and had huge clubs and huge salaries dangled in front of him, then he would soon change his tune.
Well, it looks like that fear may be happenin for Tottenham. Vuskovic has a very powerful agent in his corner in Zahavi, and the player would be a dream signing for Hansi Flick and Barcelona - and likely Vincent Kompany and Bayern Munich, too. With Hamburg not as much of a safety valve, Spurs are in desperate times.
