With Tottenham Hotspur sinking ever closer to relegation after a blowout 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in a relegation six pointer on Sunday, fans and pundits who root for top clubs around the Premier League are making up wish lists of star players they would love to steal from Spurs this summer.

Now, even in desperate times like these, it is still difficult to envision a Tottenham player exiting the club for a direct rival like Chelsea, but it is honestly hard to say that such a scenario would be impossible. And it certainly is not a deterrent for Chelsea fans to dream of a move.

Speaking on The Dressing Room podcast, former Chelsea and England national team star winger Joe Cole named Tottenham Hotspur center back (and left back) Micky van de Ven as a player he thinks would be a "brilliant addition" to Chelsea in the summer transfer window. And like many Spurs fans, Cole is of the opinion that Van de Ven looks like a guy who wants out at the end of the season.

Would Micky van de Ven be better for Chelsea?

Cole said, “I think he’s looking like he wants to leave and I think he would be a brilliant addition for Chelsea. They want to play that high line and you need a defender with pace and, you know, a good one-on-one defender. He’s brilliant.”

Micky van de Ven is one of the biggest names on Tottenham and has been linked to both Real Madrid and Barcelona this season, so it is not a surprise in the least that a former Chelsea player wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Chelse do not have a single great center back right now with Levi Colwill injured, as Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have been busts while the rest of the personnel are outright awful.

But quietly, Tottenham fans may be of two minds with a Van de Ven to Chelsea idea. Firstly, it would really, really suck if the former Wolfsburg star suddenly found his form for the rivals after playing a key role in Spurs relegation this season as a major disappointment. But secondly, if he is this bad for Tottenham right now and has shown nothing besides pace, then maybe he would be equally poor for a Chelsea team that needs stability and consistency first and foremost in defense - neither are things that the Dutch international has provided to Tottenham in 2025/26.
