Tottenham fans will be delighted with their club's stance over one of their most important players this summer. Spurs have enjoyed a bold start to the window, already snapping up three new signings, including Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.

The North London club are desperate to avoid another bottom-half campaign, and Roberto De Zerbi is hoping to lead a European qualification bid next season. A squad overhaul is likely required to permit such a campaign, and the Spurs recruitment chiefs are already hard at work to help that happen.

But there will also be departures, wiith Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario the key candidates, while there is also reported interest in other players.

Van de Ven not for sale

It emerged this week that Tottenham's star defender Micky van de Ven had become the subject of interest from Barcelona as they ponder defensive signings this summer.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, there is good news for Spurs on that front. He posted on X: "Understand no move to Liverpool or Barcelona is planned for Micky van de Ven.

"Tottenham see the centre back as a key part of the project, Roberto De Zerbi wants him to stay. No exit planned this summer."

Van de Ven is under contract until 2029, but given his importance to the team, it would not be a surprise to see him rewarded with improved terms.

Spurs are very likely to lose Cristian Romero when he returns from the World Cup, with the Argentine seemingly wanting a new challenge, so they can ill-afford to lose both of their starting centre-backs.

Van Hecke has likely been signed in anticipation of Romero departing, and the Dutch centre-back is a statement signing. Van Hecke has become one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and he will now likely make up an all-dutch, double 'van' centre-back pairing for Spurs next season.

That is thanks, in part, to Spurs refusing to lose Van de Ven, and that should be a stance that does not change irrespective of any offer. Tottenham have a gem in the Dutchman, and replacing him would be too difficult to contemplate, especially with the many other areas De Zerbi needs to improve next over the course of this summer.

Of course, we don't yet know what Van de Ven's frame of mind is as far as a stay goes, but a new contract would likely resolve any doubts this summer.
